Phyllis Estelle Baker

1930 - 2017

Phyllis Estelle Baker, 86, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2017, surrounded by family in Ormond Beach. She was the youngest of three sisters, Caroline and Jeanne, born to John J. Nakielski and Wanda V. (Karch) Nakielski on April 15, 1930 in Bayside, New York. Phyllis and her beloved husband of 67 years, Edward T. Baker Sr., retired to Florida from Connecticut. They enjoyed bowling, softball, a daily bike ride, watching movies and cookies and tea each evening. Their extensive travels included trips to Hawaii, Alaska, California, the Southwest, Branson, Missouri, and a cruise through the Panama Canal. Phyllis was an avid reader and often had the best seller in her hands. In addition to her loving husband, those left to cherish her memory include her six surviving children: Barbara C. Melendez (Hector), Edward T. Baker Jr. (Donna) of Connecticut, Robert J. Baker (Jane Sawyer) of New Hampshire, Janet V. Adams (Rich) of New York, Thomas P. Baker (Marie) of Florida, and James D. Baker (Anne) of Connecticut. Her youngest son, Gregory M., predeceased her. She was a devoted grandmother to 15 grandchildren including Kristen Dalton and Cyndi McNerney (AJ) who are residents of Ormond Beach. Of her 13 great-grandchildren, three reside in Ormond Beach; Kaeli Dalton, Carly McNerney and Drew McNerney. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church followed by a short reception.
