Dicy Frances Bauguess Lankford, age 81, of State Road, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Dicy was born in Surry County on January 8, 1943, to Curtis and Alice Greenwood Bauguess.
Dicy worked at Walmart in Elkin for several years and attended Central Full Gospel Church but was a Double Creek Baptist Church member She was a passionate cook and gardener with a deep love for flowers. Her fondness for fishing was only surpassed by her role as a caretaker. Dicy's caring nature extended to everyone she met, making her a beloved caretaker to all, a role she cherished and excelled in.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Lankford, brother Johnny Bauguess, sisters Bessie Bauguess, Betha Brown, Dorothy Bauguess, and Ruth Bauguess, grandsons Jake Lankford and Blake Holsclaw, and son-in-law Jeff Layell.
Survivors include sons Robert "Jay" Lankford and wife Sandy of Boonville, Dean Lankford and wife Peggy of Boonville, Neil Lankford and wife Angie of Elkin, and Benny Lankford of State Road; daughters Alison Layell of Thurmond, Loretta Flack and husband Jeff of Mt. Airy, and Missy Sprinkle of State Road; brother Beale Bauguess and wife Linda of Wisconsin; sister Ester Blevins of Traphill; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; her canine companion Jack.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Central Full Gospel Church, with Rev. Bobby Norman officiating. Interment will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The Lankford family will receive friends one hour before service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
