Finding Bobby Johns has passed is just a tremendous loss of a great friend and arguably the greatest racing talent ever in the Miami area.
I met Bobby as a little boy when he raced at OpaLocka Speedway. Mother used to prepare old country (Sicilian) food for Shorty and Bobby. I worked for Bobby to earn money to buy tires for my racer.
I am so sorry I never told him what an inspiration he was to me. I'm 72 now and I can still see Bobby and Shorty in the shop on 27TH Avenue.
I think I can say I was the only man alive that ever worked under Bobby's car.

I'm deeply saddened to learn of Bobby's passing. I hadn't spoken to him since my move from south Florida but his kindness has always been present in my life. One of the few gentlemen I have had the pleasure to know in my lifetime. I will never forget you. May you Rest In Peace, old friend. You were a fine human being.

Bobby Johns was my administrative sergeant at Station Five, mid 1980s. I relied on his talent and wisdom enormously. I never knew a more honest and capable cop than he. Sorry to learn of his passing. Condolences to the family.

WOOOW. My uncle started taking me to the store from I was a kid. when I got older I started going and recommending the store to others. He was always a fine gentleman (I'd only be in town from the Bahamas for short trips but I'd still sit and listen to his GREAT stories). One of the REALLY good guys, he will be greatly missed. RIP SIR.

I remember his nascar racing days. His cars had a really neat paint scheme with the # 7 and they were built by the rules, they always passed inspection. Maybe if he had used outlaw parts he could have won more races, he certainly could race with any driver of the day.

I knew Bobby since early 2000. He was such a resourceful gentleman where tire & wheel sizes etc. were concerned. His network of suppliers was tremendous & he would always have the time to chat & provide whatever information you needed. He was a true gentleman.
May he rest in peace!

My husband and I were friends and neighbors of Bobby's in Fisher Island since 2005 when we purchased our Seaside Villa a few feet from his. We became good friends and chatted every time we saw one another. We often talked about cars which is my passion. He lent a sympathetic ear and good vibes when I told him about my recent triumph over breast cancer. I saw him March 4 and 5 at the FI spa where we all exercise regularly. We said a brief hello to one another as I was rushing to an exercise class.

Both my husband, Chris, I are very saddened by the news of his passing. We just found out a few days ago. Its not the same without Bobby around to talk with when we would run in to each other by our Villas. We loved him and miss him greatly.

I go way back. Bobby's father, Shorty started his racing career in Midgets. Shorty called his first car 7A denoting the age and first initial of his daughter Angel's name.
Bobby started racing 7A when Shorty stopped driving.

Bobby was a fellow broadcaster on the old Universal Racing Radio Network owned by the late Hank Scholfield. I worked my very first race in Atlanta with him. Bobby and myself would chat about his days racing and the racing that came about in the Miami area with IMSA, CART, and NASCAR and the "Smokey" Yunick INDY side car, he was a man of legendary courage. He retired to early and I ask him about it he said, "I thought my eyes weren't as good as they should be". Bobby was someone I had great respect for, he had character and was real racer. I still tell my friends about him and all the different forms of racing he did. Bobby, I am waving a Checkered Flag for you, may you have a great victory celebration in Heaven, your friend Bill Hennecy.

I first knew about Bobby in the early 1960s. I watched him race at Rockingham when it first opened. There were only 3 drivers that knew how to handle that track in the late 1960s. Bobby, Richard Petty and Benny Parsons. Bobby and Benny did not have the support but they sure could drive that track

I had the pleasure of watching Bobby race at Indy, where he finished seventh in his first try in 1965, and also in the Firecracker 400 at Daytona. I have some Super 8 movie footage I took of him after the 1966 Firecracker 400 when he was doing a commercial for his sponsor, which I believe was a Prestone car wax product. If I remember correctly, the side of his Chevelle sported some marks from a tire from another car which had lost its' tread. Bobby was really a good driver, and would have had a Daytona 500 win in 1960 if the back window had stayed in that Pontiac. Always loved the unique paint scheme on his cars. My condolences to all Bobby's family and friends.
