ROBERT "BUFFALO BOB" STEPHAN

GURNEE - Robert H. Stephan, age 62, earned his angel wings on August 9, 2015 after a lengthy illness. An electrical engineer graduate from the University of Illinois Champaign, Bob had long careers with Rockwell Graphics and Abbott Labs. Born in Chicago, Bob grew up in Mundelein. He is survived by his wife Lu Ann (nee Kudla), sister-in-law Jo Anne Kudla, sister-in-law Peggy Brown (Gary), nieces Laurel Brown, Kelly Grossman and nephew Dan Grossman, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and LaDonne Stephan. Bob had a passion for muscle cars, especially his 1970 Plymouth Superbird and loved watching NHRA drag racing. He was a roller coaster fanatic and loved Disney World and Universal Studios in Florida. He looked forward to the annual Labor Day camping trips with his college friends and their families. Bob was known for his tee shirt collection with funny sayings. His friends nicknamed him "Buffalo Bob" and they still call him "Buff" after all these years. Bob was also known as the "Lawn Doctor" by his neighbors because of his green thumb, lush lawn and rose garden. Bob's love and compassion for others continues even in death. He has so generously donated his brain to research so that he can ultimately help others from having to endure the pain and anguish he suffered for seven years. He also selflessly donated his body to science with the hope of helping others. There will be no funeral but rather a Celebration of Bob's Life to be held at a later date.
