Rosa McDowell Obituary

Rosa Mae McDowell, 87, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016, after a brief illness. Service: 10 a.m. Monday at Birchman Baptist Church, 9100 Normandale St., Fort Worth. Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Rosa was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Goodlett. She will be remembered for her compassion, quick wit and strong convictions. Being an avid Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys fan, one of her greatest pleasures was watching them on television. Listening to bluegrass music was part of her daily agenda and always made her smile. She loved to travel, especially to bluegrass festivals. However, nothing gave her more joy than being surrounded by her family celebrating birthdays, special occasions and holidays. Rosa attended Birchman Baptist Church and was a servant for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Rosa will be missed, as she was a blessing and shining light to everyone who knew her. She has now been welcomed by Jesus Christ into her eternal home. Rosa was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Hugh. Survivors: Son, Jack McDowell and wife, Deborah; daughters, Judy Simpson and husband, Harold, Ginger Burkhalter and husband, Chris, Tina Guimarin and husband, Harold; grandchildren, Gaylen McDowell, April Pitts, Bryan Simpson, Clint Simpson, Kelsey Guimarin and Kyle Guimarin; six great-grandchildren; brother R. W. Meek and wife, Eva; along with numerous other relatives and friends. A special thank-you is extended to Trish Adams and Thelma Whitehurst.

The Champion and McDowell families have been involved through several generations
and we have shared so many good times as well as sorrowful times. Rosa Mae was always so warm and friendly and a quick wit and I loved the way she connected with her family.

Rosa was a dear friend of my mother(Evelyn Davis) when they were young and starting to raise their family. Many years later and much to my surprise one day at church She turn to me and said " you best behave I used to baby sit you and even changed your diaper". We both laughed. One of the joys I will miss was giving Rosa a kiss and a hug just before Sunday service. She was a shinning example of a Godly woman and mother , and I will miss her greatly. Our sincerest sympathy to her family during this time of great loss. Richard and Helen Davis

Rosa was such a sweet person. I will miss her and her gentle way and the frequent visits as we talked about our families and how we all were doing. She wasn't just a customer to me but she was my friend too that held a special place in my heart, even though I was just her pest control man. My deepest sympathy goes out to her family during this time. And I know she's in heaven watching over us all. God bless her!Sincerely, Todd her bug man.

You are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. As youngsters, we played together, sang together, and then grew up together. Know that we are with you in spirit and thoughts even though we can not be there in person.

Grandma, There are no words to describe my feeling about you being gone. I am still in shock and don't know what we will do without our Rock of the family. You always had a smile on your face and a hug to hold me tight but yet a stern word if I needed it. I will miss you so much. You will never be forgotten. I know you have found granddad by now so enjoy dancing and singing your bluegrass music together until we meet again. Love Your granddaughter April Pitts.
