Rosemary Testa Obituary

Rosemary Uddo Testa, age 93, died peacefully at home in New Orleans on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Michael Angelo Testa of Campobasso, Italy, and her parents, Angelina Nastasi Uddo and Frank Uddo of Sicily. She was a devoted mother to her daughters Angela Testa Koenig, Jo-Ann Testa-Hebert (Jim), Rosalie Testa Fitzmorris (Dennis) and Linda Testa Tartaglia (Angelo) and a beloved grandmother of Michael Koenig, Christine Koenig Leatherman (Matthew), Kevin Fitzmorris (Melanie), Todd Fitzmorris (Holly), Allegra Tartaglia and Antonio Tartaglia. She is also survived by 1 great-grandson, Andrew Fitzmorris, her sister, Nancy Uddo Ranatza, 5 step grandchildren and 16 step great-grandchildren. Anyone who truly knew Rosemary (Rose) will never forget her extraordinary dedication to attending daily Mass. She will also be remembered for her special devotion to the Rosary, the Missionaries of St. Therese, Lay Carmelites and Padro Pio. Rose was a wonderful Italian cook, who loved entertaining family and friends for Sunday dinners and swimming afterwards. She worked tirelessly for the annual St. Joseph Altars, baking cookies and other Italian specialties. When Rose wasn't working for others, she loved traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe. Rose was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Rosalee Mary Testa, and her brothers, Salvadore Uddo and Joseph Uddo. Relatives and friends are invited Wednesday, June 1, for visitation beginning at 10 AM at St. Dominic's Catholic Church, 775 Harrison Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon, followed by Internment at Lake Lawn Metairie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ursuline Academy, 2635 State St., New Orleans, La. 70118 or to the Missionaries of St. Therese, in care of St. Dominic's Church.

My deepest condolences to JoAnn and sisters from Alabama and Italy. I remember the first day in our office that I had the pleasure of caring for Ms Rose. It was so many years ago, yet it feels as if it was yesterday. I know she was proud of her girls and loved you all equally the same. She and I shared so many conversations that I will cherish and hold close to my heart for many years. Every year I looked for my cookies from the alter and my lucky bean. Every year my friend, Ms Rose, was going to make sure I received it. She was a testimony and blessing to many. Thank you all for allowing me an opportunity to care for Ms Rose.

Always,

Celestine Walker, RN, MSN

She was a lovely, kind, and hospitable woman. Aunt Rose and Uncle Mike welcomed us on so many Sundays to swim in the pool and enjoy family meals together. She was a member of the greatest generations and will be greatly missed. But her legacy continues through her beautiful daughters, their children, and generations to come.

The loss of someone so close and whom we loved so much is difficult, but, we know that she lived such a full life and we are grateful for all the wonderful memories. She was another grandmother to us and I know our lives were fuller because she was part of it. We love you Aunt Rose.
