Ruby Brown Obituary

Ruby Mae Coker Hamon Brown passed away peacefully Sunday morning, August 18, in Pasadena, TX. She was attended with compassionate care by the loving and skilled staffs of Colonial Oaks Assisted Living Center in Pasadena and Grace Hospice of Texas. Ruby was 92 years old. She is survived by her sister Jewel Meyer, currently living in New Braunfels, TX, and her children; Wayne (Dub) Hamon of Texas City, Carol Hamon Buxton of Carrboro, NC, and Irene Hamon of Pasadena. Ruby also has 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 4 stepchildren, and many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Ruby was born in Gorman, TX on November 28, 1920. Her father called himself a Texas Plowboy. He was a farmer and a pastor with the Church of God. The family moved often, sometimes by horse and wagon, so Ruby, her two sisters, and four surviving brothers attended schools in several towns in east and west Texas. Ruby graduated from Reagan High School in Houston in 1937. She moved to Pasadena in 1941 and has lived there since. Ruby always wanted to be an English teacher, but finances prevented her going on to college. Nevertheless, she became a life-long master teacher of faith, love and hope. She taught Sunday School classes for people of all ages and led church youth groups for many years. She also devoted her teaching gifts to raising her children and mentoring numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and church members. Ruby is fondly remembered as a woman of beauty, peace, and grace, who embodied and reflected God's love in all her actions. She modeled a life of good humor and unconditional love. She saw the best in people and helped them focus on the positive. She and her husband, Bill Brown, helped numerous family members and friends through difficult times by sharing their home, finances, love and wisdom. Ruby's service was held on Wednesday at Parkgate Community Church in Pasadena. For those inclined, the family requests memorial donations be made in Ruby's name to the Family Life Building Fund at Parkgate Community Church.
