I was in Lubbock this past weekend to see the Tech K-State game. My nephew is working at Sam's Place on campus and when I asked about Dr. B, I found out he had recently passed away. You will be missed Dr. B - Paul Campbell, Dallas

To my dearest friend, Sam, your birthday is almost here, a special one indeed on the 7th of September. It would have been your 60th! As I was looking through all the cards and notes you sent me throughout the years, I found a special one I wanted to share. You're a Friend for All TImes. Some of the happiest times of my life are times you and I spend together. For deep in my heart I've considered you special - one of my dearest friends ever. Time after time I've enjoyed your company, warmed by the closeness we share. And when there were days that I needed encouragement, I knew you'd always be there. Time and again I've been ever so grateful for having a good friend like you. A friend for all times, to confide in, to count on and treasure a whole lifetime through. Thank you for being my Friend for all times. Happy Birthday and until we meet again....give our Moms a hug from me. God bless. You are dearly missed.

Sam, I was shocked to hear about your untimely death. I very much enjoyed our dinner's and coffee's together. You were a challenging and interesting thinker with a golden heart both for people and for God. Thank you for your friendship. I'll look forward to rekindling it again soon.

Jim and I are broken hearted that we were not in town for Sam's funeral. He was a great friend to both of us and we will miss him. To Sandra, Roberta and all of Sam's family, please know we lit candles and said prayers for Sam and all of you at St. Patrick's and Christ Church in Ireland yesterday. If there is anything we can do, please let us know. May God grant you the Peace which passes all understanding.

It's been a week since I got the news of Sam's passing. I have had many days to think about our working relationship and friendship. How much I learned from Sam and his straightforward approach to achieving our project goals. His funny way of just looking at you to communicate what needed to be said, but didn't have to be. I loved that about Sam. I will miss him.

I always looked forward to seeing you during your visits, and I am so thankful that you guided Taylor through his four years at Tech. Sweet Uncle Sam...my family is still in disbelief that you are gone. Heaven has gained another great soul while Earth has definitely lost one. You were such an amazing man with many gifts that enabled you to touch the lives of so many people. Although I was not a member of the elite Texas Tech "club," I definitely felt like an honorary member and saw how much you impacted the University. You are missed, and will continue to be missed. Spending our lives working for Texas Tech and growing as professionals is how I will remember Sam--my friend, my colleague. We spent many hours sharing our experiences and advice to each other. I remember in graduate school he created his plan for Texas Tech Dining Services. Over 20 years he used that roadmap to develop Dining Services into a nationally known and respected organization. His leadership and his legacy will live on.
My sincere sympathy to Sam's family and friends. He is missed.

In rememberance of Sam hiring my son Frank Clark and daughter -in-law Mary Ann Toste Clark to work for his Food services Dept. while they were at Tech. They remained friends and we had breakfast with him last fall when we were in Lubbock. He showed us the offices of Food Services and all the innovative ideas that he had put in place. He also showed me his new Cadillac as I was in the market to buy a new car. He will be missed but not forgotten. Sincerely, Bess Clark

Sam Bennett was Tech Food Service. He had the ability to put complete trust and faith in you, and you felt you had to live up to that trust and faith. I am so sorry my son will not be able to work under Dr. Bennett like I did. I too worked my way up from a student employee, supervisor, and management. While Sam required excellence, he also had a heart and gave me time to deal with my dad's death. He is sorely missed.

Sam was our friend for 42 yrs. We saw him grow from an eager student to a polished professional. The Razey family will miss you. He always had a mischievous glint in his eye--I think it was the Irish in him!

My Great Uncle Sam will most definitely be missed. He was a proud Red Raider, and left Texas Tech a better place. TTU was Sam's 'place', and he will be remembered not only for what he did for the University, but for his philanthropic deeds. Enjoy your retirement in Heaven, Sam. Guns up!

My Uncle Sam I would have to say was a Red Raider through and through; I will surely miss the prime rib at Christmas. He was a great cook and calm individual. I would say he did leave this world a better place. Even though he doesn't like heights he is there now; looking down. I know my Mom is sad because she loved her brother and was proud of his success. We will all miss him as I already do now...

I did not know Sam myself, but felt like I did through my mother, Melba Peters. She thought of Sam as her own son during their long career together at Texas Tech. She greatly admired him and always spoke highly of him. I know they are cooking up something wonderful in heaven right now!
