Sharon Hammond Obituary

Sharon Kay Hammond
1947-2016
Sharon Kay Darnell Hammond, our mother, was born January 23, 1947 and passed from this life on January 18, 2016. She was born to Randolph Arnold Darnell and Mildred Earlene Renfro on January 23, 1947 in Dallas, Texas, the third of three children. Her sisters, Norma Jean McCoin of Afton, OK and Linda Delores Lenihan of Marietta, GA, and two of her three children, Kevin Lynn Hammond of Carmel, Indiana and Korey Alysha Duran of Bellville, TX, survive her. Her parents and her youngest child, Kimberly Cristin Hammond, preceded her in death.
Sharon was born in Dallas, but grew up in Phillips, TX. During her junior year in high school, she moved with her family to Bartlesville, OK. She liked to say that she was kidnapped and held captive in Oklahoma for 22 years. She married Roger Clayton Hammond in February of 1968 and started working for Shell Oil later that year, beginning a more than forty-year career with the company. She started in the credit card division as a customer service representative. As the industry became more computerized, she studied Management Information Systems, receiving her degree from Tulsa University in 1988. From there, she transferred to Houston and worked in the computing division, supporting systems until her retirement in 2011.
Sharon was blessed with five grandchildren, Kayla Nicole Duran, Duncan Fenner Hammond, Maxwell Logan Hammond, Kara Ashlynn Duran, and Ian Quinn Hammond. Her nephew Randy Trimble and niece, Erin Lenihan Larkin, also survive her.
We would like to thank her wonderful caregivers, Debbie, Jennie, Sandra, and all the others that helped her enjoy her life these past 12 months. We are eternally grateful for the care you showed our mother.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, Friday, January 22, 2016 at Settegast-Kopf & Company Funeral Directors, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas 77478. The funeral service will be held the next morning, January 23, 2016 beginning at 10:00am in the Morrow Chapel at Settegast-Kopf & Co. Funeral Directors. A small reception will follow prior to interment at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.

Sharon was my Grandmother, and because of me, she is either called Don or Jon instead of Grandma. I am the oldest of the grandchildren, and Jon was the best grandmother any kid could ask for. Every time I went to her house she always had some new activity for me to do. Jon taught me how to paint, don't take no for an answer, enjoy the moments that we cannot get back, and especially learning how to be stubborn. My world is lonely without her, because every memory I have shared with her are all wonderfully precious. I will never forget my Jon and how much she made my life better. My number one person will always remain to be Jon. Thank you to everyone who attended the funeral in respects to her and my family.

Sharon worked for me for about a year, and can tell you she had the best attitude about everything she did. When something wasn't clear she would work until she figured it out, and never gave up. She never took no for an answer when faced with a challenge. While I haven't been in touch with her for a number of years, I thought so highly of her, and I do know how much she loved her family. I'm sure she will be terribly missed, and send my condolences to her family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Sharon and always enjoyed her sense of humor. She and Kimber babysat for my firstborn sometimes and I got lots of parenting advice. I'm so glad we got to visit in early December. She recalled how we carpooled and that she had to drive my car when it snowed because I didn't know how (my first-ever snow experience as a driver). We reminisced about getting calls from Data Control during the middle of the night - funny, we remembered some of the job names and workdays! Sharon was a beautiful lady with a loving heart. I will miss her. Prayers to all of you during this difficult time.

I'm crying. I dearly loved--and still love--Sharon but didn't know she was so ill. She wasn't the best at keeping up and hadn't answered my latest emails. In one, I invited her to spend a weekend with me in Austin. I was minister to Sharon and Kimber for two years. Sharon came to George's funeral which I didn't expect but meant so much. Goodbye, my dear friend.

My heart is broken. I didn't know she was ill. We had some wonderful times. Always remember her sausage biscuits and gravy. I would come in a heartbeat but not well enough to travel. Love to all of you. Donnie and Wilma
