Simon H. Jacobo

Simon H. Jacobo LUBBOCK-Simon H. Jacobo died on Saturday, March 5, 2016. Services and Mass to celebrate his 92 years of life will be held on Thursday morning, March 10, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 3111 Erskine Street, where Simon was a member. Viewing will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. Simon will be buried next to his wife, in the Resthaven Memorial Park. Simon was born on Feb. 18, 1924, in Shafter, Texas, the son of Tranquilino Seferino Jacobo and Paulina Graciano. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cristina; a brother, also named Simon; and a sister, Maria. Simon worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 37 years. In addition to his full-time job with the Railroad, he always had at least two part-time jobs. He was a very active member of his Church, being a founding member of the Cursillista movement in the United States, Diocese of San Angelo, Texas, which advocates community participation and social justice. Quietly, and known only to a few, with his pickup truck, he provided transportation to the poor, the elderly, and the abandoned, taking them to the grocery store, the Senior Citizens Center, doctor appointments, and other critical destinations. Simon is remembered for his enthusiasm for life and his faith in education. He often repeated, Remember we are all the same; no better, but no worse than anyone else. Education is the most important thing then work, work, work! My life has been a miracle, and I am ready to go at any time. Our family has been blessed. Simon lived an incredible life of constant gratitude. He will be missed. He is survived by three children: daughters, Paulina and husband, Robin, Carmen and husband, David, and son, Horacio; eight grandchildren, Lissa, Mateo, Laura, Christopher, Kayla, Robin Morris, Benjamin, and Margaret; and 13 great grandchildren, Unique, Destiny, Madison, Leilani, Sabina, Olive, Sofia, Daisha, Ashlie, Glenn, Johnathan, Tristan, and Rebeckah; and his friends and family at Carillon, and in the community. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Catholic Family Services, Our Lady of Grace, Hospice of Lubbock or your favorite charity.
