Theodore Veirs Obituary

Theodore "Ted" L. Veirs, 71 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Hardin County and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving three years during Vietnam, and the U.S. Navy, serving four years. He was an electrician at Gates Rubber Company Belt and Hose Plant from March 28, 1968, until his retirement when the plant closed. He was a 1959 graduate of Rineyville High School.

Ted was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and uncle. He had many friends and never hesitated to help someone when they asked for it. He was an avid geocacher and loved bluegrass music. He spent many hours working in his woods and garden and loved to travel when he could. He especially enjoyed his monthly breakfasts with former Gates employees and his weekly Monday lunches at Mr. Gatti's with other friends. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Veirs and Virginia Celestine Logsdon Veirs; a brother, James Ronald Veirs; a sister, Shirley Loving; and a brother-in-law, Tate Wright.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia (Patty) Bryan Veirs; two sons, James Scott (Sandra) Veirs of Ballston Spa, N.Y., and Joseph Darren (Tania) Veirs of Elizabethtown; two daughters, Cynthia (Jarrad) Vowels of Elizabethtown and Amy Veirs (Dave Fox) of Hamilton, Mont.; and four grandchildren who he loved dearly, Grace and Lily Vowels, Jack Veirs and Katie Skiles. He also is survived by three brothers, David (Judy) Veirs and Mike Viers, all of Elizabethtown and Larry (Karen) Veirs of Cecilia; five sisters, Joyce Wright of Louisville, Linda (Paul) Champ, Cheryl (Gene) Scott and Donna Owen, all of Elizabethtown, and Judy (Bernie) Faulhaber of Port Orange, Fla.; two special sisters-in-law, Janet Bryan of Louisville and Dottie Veirs of Pennsylvania; a brother-in-law, Ron (Mary Ellen) Bryan of Elizabethtown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at St. James Catholic Church with the Revs. Chuck Walker and Stanley Osborne officiating. Burial follows in St. James Cemetery.

Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and continues at 9 a.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A prayer vigil is at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
