Thomas Anderson Obituary

Thomas Chaney Anderson, of Pasadena, Texas passed from this life into the presence of God on September 30, 2011. He was surrounded by his loving wife, JoJean, son Jeff and close Christian family. Chaney was born December 25, 1937 in Dallas, Texas and raised there by parents, C.C. and Vera Anderson. Chaney had the heart of Christ and selflessly dedicated his life to serving God and loving others in every aspect of his life. He especially loved his family. Chaney is survived by his wife JoJean, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of love and friendship. He is also survived by his son Jeff, around whom his world revolved. Chaney was preceded in death by his second born and much-loved son Jay and his parents C.C. and Vera Anderson. In his early years, Chaney worked as a professor for the University of Houston - Downtown teaching mathematics. Chaney had a passion for teaching that he carried through life. Chaney's career took him through several levels of administration with the university. In 2005, Chaney retired from the University of Houston-Downtown as Vice President/CFO after over 30 years of service. Chaney was dearly loved by all who knew him at the university. Chaney's passion for teaching was not to be outdone by his love for the church. Chaney served in the church his entire life and as an elder for nearly 25 years. He truly loved the church. He shepherded and ministered to every person who touched his life, even through his very last days. The church has lost a mighty man of God, but truly learned through Chaney what it means to be a peacemaker and to put others above yourself. Chaney was an avid bowler and bowled weekly in the Rebels League in Pasadena. He was particularly proud of his "300" game and of his "299" trophy. Visitation will be Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 4PM to 6PM at Grand View Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Monday, October 3, 2011 at 10AM at Grand View Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 10AM at Haley Memorial Cemetery in Irving, Texas. In-lieu-of flowers, please honor Chaney's wishes by donating to the Jay Anderson Scholarship Fund at the University of Houston "downtown" by calling 713-221-8000. ney was university-related, my thoughts turned to all the folks at the Downtown university who are indebted to him, but never knew him. Those of us who worked with him will never forget him. His accomplishments there were little short of miraculous.
He was one of those Christians blessed to have lived out the exhortations of the Sermon on the Mount in all the phases of his life. Well done, Chaney. Your friend, Mildred Schmidt

Ms.JoJean & Jeff may God's strength and peace and the love of those around you bring you comfort and hope with each new day."Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted" Matthew 5:4. My memories of Mr. Anderson will last forever.

Chaney's contribution to the growth and development of UH-
Downtown was probably second to none. He was a pleasure to work with and will be sorely missed.

Dear JoJean & Jeff-We are so sad to hear of Chaney's passing. I had just recently found out that he was sick. I had seen his picture in the ACU alumina magazine this summer. Our prayers are with you both while you make this difficult adjustment. May God bless your years of wonderful memories and guide you through these coming months of transition.

With Love, Jackie & Mary Casey and family

JoJean and Jeff, I am heartbroken to have learned of Chaney's passing. I have such fond memories of him teaching our Sunday school classes at Central. And that big, beautiful smile of his will remain in my heart. May you find peace and comfort in the Lord knowing that Chaney was a devoted husband, father and man of God. With deepest sympathy and love, Dina Stephenson

Mr. Anderson was my homeroom teacher at South Houston High School. I graduated in 1967, but always remembered this kind and gentle man with love and respect. Please except my deepest sympathy.

To JoJean and Jeff, We are so sorry for your loss. We are all going to miss him and don't know where the church at Deer Park will go without him. But I'm sure God has a plan. I'm sorry that I haven't been able to get out yet but hope to be there tomorrow. It was so thoughtful of Chaney to request Gary be an honorary Pallbearer. Gary will never forget it. It is such an honor. Love, Allan and Mary McFadden

To Chaney's Family,
I worked with Chaney in the late 1970's at UHD. He always had a smile, was always helpful and always talked about how proud he was of his family.
I am sorry for your loss. Chaney will be in my prayers.

To the Mr. Chaney Anderson family, this is to let you know that he and all of you are with us in prayer and support. Mr. Anderson was a pillar of strength and determination in work and friendship. We all respect and look up to him still. While I did not have too much person to person contact with him, I know of his work by the leadership and support he allowed all of us in Information Technology. He did very well in passing on this detemination and drive to the rest of us. We will not forget him and are proud to have served under his direction and leadership!
