He was the husband of Carol Ann (Wambold) Herbert. Born in Phoenixville, PA, he was the son of the late Robert Gamble Herbert and Terry (Caffrey) Herbert Yeager of Phoenixville.
He held various jobs in the auto repair industry. He was also a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Tom was a lifetime member of the B00BIE NATION charities organization. He raced late model stock cars at Grandview Speedway. He was known as the "Pink Panther," car 18. He had 12 wins in his career. Herbert Brothers Racing also raced go-karts at Marsh Creek Speedway with his son John as the driver. John won championships there. His wife, Carol, also raced go-karts. The last project completed was a replica of the 1969 Camaro that Tom raced in 1977. It was taken to car shows along with a live Pink Panther mascot. Tom also enjoyed building model cars.
Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother is one son, John, husband of KaLin Herbert, Birdsboro, PA; two daughters: Shannon Herbert of Birdsboro, and Rachael Herbert, in Belgium; one brother, Gary Herbert and his fianceé, Jodi Potts, of Birdsboro; one stepbrother, Thomas H., husband of Louise Yeager, Chester Springs, PA; one niece, Kelly, wife of Wes Rose, Glenside, PA; two step-sisters: Linda, wife of Oscar Brunner, Pottstown, PA, and Eileen, wife of Kevin Barregarye, Boyertown, PA, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Limerick Garden of Memories, 44 Swamp Pike, Limerick, PA on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 at 12:00 noon. A visitation will be held on Sat. from 10:00-12:00 noon in the chapel. Interment in Limerick Garden of Memories.

Just saw the news in the merchandiser...so sorry to see...i am a former co-worker from reading honda who met Tom in 1989...was happy to paint some pink panther panels for him some years ago...if ever was a guy who "marched to a different drummer".

My condolences to the entire Herbert family. I enjoyed watching him race at Grandview speedway as a teenager and was fortunate enough to actually race with Tom. One of my highlights was actually getting to drive the Pink Panther at Grandview. Tom will be missed....
