Togue Uchida Obituary
Nashville, TN
Togue Ingvar Uchida, age 98, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2016, in Nashville, TN. He was born October 13, 1917 in Madison, Wisconsin, to Astrid Dagny Larsen and Togo Matsu Uchida. He is survived by his five children, Karen (Bob) Beyer, Paul David II, Ross (Cathy), Missy, and Tom (Debbie) Uchida; grandchildren: Eric Furman, Emily (Jimmy) Hurley, Alex, Stephanie and Kaitlin Uchida, Reese Sanders, Kori, Samantha and Cameron Uchida and great-grandsons: Jason McCoy and Tristin Hurley. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ross Uchida and siblings Aage Jero and Paul David Uchida I.
Togue graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, married Mary Ross on December 27, 1947 and moved to Nashville to continue his work as a photographer. He was a member of the Professional Photographers Association. In 1965 he started his own family business, Uchida Photography, still vital today. Togue was a member of the highly decorated 442nd Japanese-American Regimental Combat Team in WWII.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13 at St. Henry Church, 6401 Harding Rd. in Nashville, TN officiated by Father Mark Beckman. A flag folding ceremony and reception will follow in the Parish Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The Japanese-American National Museum at: www.janm.org.

I still miss my wonderful friend, Togue. He gave of himself so tirelessly to teach me photo and negative retouching. He was a true artist not just a photographer. Togue, I think of you almost daily. Now Bob has joined you and I hope you are enjoying lunch with him every day! It was my pleasure to call you my friend.

Ross and family - I'm glad I had the chance to meet your dad. He obviously lived a full and meaningful life. I particularly noted his service in WWII with the Japanese-American unit. My dad would have been the same age.

Togue took many childhood photos of my daughter, from age 3 months. He captured each age with such skill and heart. The photos are treasured memories of her growing up. Our thoughts are with your family.

The world has lost one of the finest men ever to walk in our midst but heaven has certainly gained an angel. Togue was a wonderful friend, mentor, courageous veteran, marvelous father, grandfather and great grandfather. We miss him terribly but we have such wonderful memories of him. Togue, we salute you. Job well done!

To Togue's family, I will never forget how special your father made me feel whenever he photographied me for all of my school pictures and my wedding. He has a very special place in my heart. He was a warm, talented man who knew how to create just the right photograph. I will miss him very much but am glad that he is in a better place in Heaven reunited with Mary and my parents and so many beloved people. God bless you all.
