I miss you Grama! I'm glad we have so many memories together - like when we were a bowling team at 4th Street Bowl! I'm sorry we never got to go to a Giants game together, but we sure did watch a bunch together.
Thinking of you and loving you always.

Velda was, and continues to be, a very special friend. We will miss her. Her personality and wit were one of a kind. She was so much fun to be around. We always felt welcomed, loved, and valued when in her presence. Our memories of living in Fremont definately include our relationship with Velda. It has now been 20 years since we moved from Fremont to Puyallup Washington. During these past 20 years we have talked at length on the phone every Christmas season, and on our respective birthdays. Our phone calls with Velda were such a part of our family traditions during these celebrations. Every now and then life affords the great blessing of crossing paths with some very special people. We consider Velda an angel that has blessed our lives in such a beautiful way. With all our hearts we look forward to a very special reunion with her in the future.

Velda, we will miss you more than we can express. You have been a wonderful neighbor and friend! Everyone that knew you was blessed by your kindness and sense of humor. We will treasure the afghans you made us over the years and will think of you every time we use them. Jim loved that you were a Giants fan and loved talking to you about them! I loved that you were a chocolate fan and always had chocolate at your fingertips! You were faithful and true to the end and we are happy to have known you and we look forward to when we meet again. We love you Velda!

Since moving from Fremont about 10 years ago, I have often thought of Velda. She was so good to me and my family. She is loved by so many people and will truly be missed. I still enjoy many blankets that she made for me. I was so fortunate to know and have her as a friend.

Velda was one of a kind. She took care of more people than anyone will ever really know. She adopted my family 23 years ago when she found out that our families lived so far away. She was our 'California Grandma'. She was mom, grandma, confidant, and friend. When my mom died 10 years ago, she said, "You still have a mom, you've got me!" And she was. She leaves a hole that won't be filled until we're together again. We're eating bacon, tortellini and chocolate in her memory! Velda, we will always love you and are so grateful for your influence in our lives. We will miss the laughter and good times, but are excited for your reunion with the boys and your parents after all these years.

You have been many different things to me over the past 38 years. First, you were Mrs. Durney (My boyfriends mom)..Then you let me move in and you said "You live here, you dont have to call me Mrs. Durney!" so I transitions to Velda. Then you became my Mother-In-Law and soon after Nicholas was born and you became "Grandma". You have always been "The Old Wise One", who I would always come to for advise and help and you were ALWAYS there for me with love and wisdome! I LOVE and RESPECT you more than anyone in my life. We have all been dreading this day for years, knowing it would happen but not wanting to let go. I am so blessed that I have had you so closely in my life for so many years and I'm so thankful Nick and I were able to see you during your last few days and we were able to say the things to you that each of us NEEDED to say and you understood and you let us know how much you loved us too. You once told me many years ago that I was a free spirit......Now you are.....Soar above us, watch after us......Love us from above.......I love you!!!

Velda (Mom) was my mothers best friend of her life. I knew her when I was growing up in Bellevue for many years before she moved to California. Lavar was my good buddy back then and JoAnn was my first girl friend. I had the pleasure a few years ago to connect with Velda and JoAnn and have been visiting them each year since. I am so glad that I had the chance to visit this wonderful lady these past years and it saddens me greatly to not be able to see her just once more. I know she and my mom are together again jokeing and laughing like they used to. I love you Velda.

Our dear Velda,

What a real sweetheart you were. Visiting with you and Joann was always a hoot. Our visits were always too short, but I always left feeling happy. I have memories of M&M's, chocolates, lots of yarn and of course Rocco the bird. I loved it when I brought Pete over and he made you laugh. I also have something special from you. You crocheted my new little grand baby two baby blankets last January. I will always think of you when I see my grand baby using those special blankets. Pete and I love you and will miss you. With all our love,

Jackie and Jerry Angelo

Velda was a dear friend who helped me with crocheting and had simple bits of wisdom to offer that she lived by.
What a great example she was to help friends and neighbors. She would buy groceries and help those who couldn't get out to shop. She will be remembered fondly always!

"And her children shall rise up and call her blessed." This passage from God's Word applies to you better than anyone I know. Your children love you with an undying love and it's so easily seen in their actions as well as in their words. You have been a wonderful mentor to so many lives and have blessed many by your love, your humor and your generous actions. I am blessed to have had you as a mother-in-law and will miss you sorely. However, now LaVar and the boys will keep you company till we meet again.
Love you always, Pam

Grandma-
I love you to the moon and back. Words cannot express how much I am going to miss you. I find peace in the fact that you are no longer short of breath and tired. I am also happy you are with my Dad. Give him a hug for me. I will hold close to my heart all the memories I have...all the visits to Sears (and the candy), the trip to Montana, all the Christmases we spent at your house and all of your visits to Florida. Till we meet again!!

Velda's kindness and influence spanned 3 generations in our family. She was a "grand" lady. I am so grateful to have known her. Memories are wonderful gifts and I will treasure many of Velda. Chocolate, popcorn, bacon and bowling were some of her likes, but her family and friends meant so much to her. I loved and admired her greatly.

Velda always made me feel welcome in her home, and never guilty if I didn't come as often as I'd like. She taught me and many others how to crochet. Now we have left a legacy to our families because of what she taught us. She and JoAnn were such great hostesses, I never went away hungry...Velda and I shared the love of the same kind of candy...peanut M&M's!
She was so diligent at keeping track of the sisters in our church and making sure they were okay.
She treated us like her kids, my husband and I will miss her!

Grama Velda~
I love you so much! Miss you way too much already! I am so happy you are finally home with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ! I know it was a long wait for you, but I am so happy for all the extra time Heavenly Father gave us together! I promise we will finish the granny-square quilt you started that Sam and I were gonna put togehter with you. I know mom will help us finish it! Give everyone up there a big hug and kiss for me!!
