Vera Lilly Schafer, 88, of Longmont, CO passed away June 5,2012 at Bross Street Assisted Living. She was born July 20, 1923 in Hampton, NE to David and Agnes (Wall) Smith and lived in Aurora, NE until she moved to Portland, OR in 1943.
Vera married Harold Schafer September 7, 1951 in Portland, OR. Since that time, she and her husband served a number of pastorates in various states and lived in Windsor Heights, IA, for twenty-five years before moving to Longmont in 2011. She was a wonderful homemaker, had a day care for children and a strong Christian faith.
Vera enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, flower gardening and entertaining in her home. She taught Sunday school and women's Bible studies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and three sisters.
Vera is survived by her husband Harold of Longmont, a son Merlyn Schafer (Patti) of Comstock, WI, two daughters Janelle Shearer (Rod) of Prior Lake, MN, LaRita Johnson (Tim) of Longmont, a sister Bonnie Thome (Clair) of Portland, OR, five grandchildren: Shanna, Karissa, Bethany, Lydia and Caleb, and numerous nieces and nephews on the West Coast.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM Tuesday with Memorial service at 10:30 AM at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Interment will be 2:30 PM Tuesday at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO at Shelter B.
