Springfield, MO - Anne Price Burress Wampler, 78, Springfield, MO was the beloved and devoted wife of Dee Wampler of 55 years. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Bigby Burress (Frances Kagey) of New Market, Virginia, and the great-great granddaughter of Captain Berryman Zirkle Price of the Confederacy. She was born at "Riverlawn" in the Shenandoah Mountains in New Market, Virginia and was a Daughter of the Confederacy and Daughter of the American Revolution (DAR).

Her family members attended Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and her uncle General Withers Burress, 100 Infantry Division, was Commandant of Virginia Military Academy.

Anne was a graduate of Stuart Hall Preparatory School, Staunton, Virginia, (named after Colonel Jeb Stuart); Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri; and Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia. She enjoyed teaching Bible study classes, led praise and worship and participated in mission trips in the US and various parts of the world. Anne wrote and published seven devotional books, was well versed in the teachings of Jesus Christ and studied daily Bible readings.

She was accomplished with the guitar and performed with her husband in a folk singing group at the University of Missouri. She was an artist, a portrait painter, interior designer, an excellent ballroom dancer, an accomplished bridge player, and enjoyed a good game of tennis. Anne was an accomplished poker player and regularly beat opponents at Mahjong. Anne loved spending time in her favorite city Naples, Florida since 1973.

Anne was the extreme soccer mom attending all the games. She never missed a tennis match, cheering on Allison and John at Glendale High School and USTA matches. She took Allison and John to summer camps, computer lessons, tennis lessons, drum and violin lessons, tutor appointments, boy scouts, girl scouts, and all church activities.

Anne traveled around the world, to all nations of eastern and western Europe, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Hawaii, where she saw things that many will never see. She traveled with missionaries, with a guitar on her back, playing Christian songs and had a beautiful voice. She rode in sampans in floating Bangkok markets, snow skied, hiked Aspen mountains, smuggled Bibles on mission trips at great risk to her life into the People's Republic of China.

She attended Hope Church and James River Church, and taught Sunday School at King's Way United Methodist and Second Baptist Church.

Anne is survived by her husband, Dee Wampler, Attorney at Law and former Greene County Prosecuting Attorney; her son, John Christian Wampler and daughter-in-law Jennifer (Columbia, Missouri); daughter Allison Price Steiner, Springfield, and Mark Steiner; a brother Withers A. Burress and wife Janet of Roanoke, Virginia, and cousin, Jennifer Burress. Anne is survived by four grandchildren, Olivia Anne Steiner, Luke Jonathon Steiner, Hannah Grace Wampler and Daniel Dee Wampler. She was preceded in death by granddaughter, Elizabeth Joy Wampler, age 10.

Anne loved the Lord with all of her heart and soul. She left a legacy of the knowledge and faith of Jesus Christ to her children and grandchildren. She was a stylish lady who always looked her best. She brought joy and laughter everywhere she went. She was the life of the party.
