MICHAEL GRADWOHL Obituary

MICHAEL LAWRENCE GRADWOHL 1951-2015 Native New Orleanian Michael Lawrence Gradwohl, 63, died on July 31 in Houston, Texas from complications of diabetes. He is survived by his college sweetheart, wife of 44 years, Anita Allred Gradwohl, daughters Rebekah Gradwohl Tuer and Rachel Gradwohl; his siblings, Eileen Gradwohl and Mark Gradwohl; son-in-law Travis Tuer; and the grandson he adored, Garrett Michael Tuer. He is predeceased by his parents, Morris S. Gradwohl and Evelyn Donaldson Ellis, and his brother Keith Gradwohl. He attended East Jefferson High School and Southeastern Louisiana University. Michael was an avid Saints fan, an inspired cook, and an enthusiastic supporter of Jazz Fest and Mardi Gras. He and Anita were generous hosts and warmly welcomed hundreds of guests to their many parties over the years. Central in Michael's friendships were his fraternity brothers of Sigma Tau Gamma. They were close to his heart and the core of many, many life-long and loving relationships. Everyone is welcome to join the family at a celebration of Michael's joyful life: Munholland UMC, 1201 Metairie Rd, on Saturday, August 8. Visitation at 9am, followed by a memorial service at 11. There will follow on August 13 an interment of ashes at John Wesley UMC, 5830 Bermuda Dunes Dr., Houston, Texas to which all are invited. Visitation at 6pm followed by interment at 7. Michael requested that no one wear black at either service and that everyone should wear comfortable colorful clothes such as Jazz Fest, Mardi Gras, SLU, LSU, Saints or fraternity shirts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or a college education fund for the benefit of Garrett Tuer. Education fund donations can be mailed to 5407 Westerham Pl, Houston, TX 77069.

It is sad to see the passing of such a fighting spirit. It sounds like he was much beloved, generous, kind, and fun. His energy radiated outwards and touched me, though I did not even know him--so beloved and admired by his family that I feel I almost knew him. Many heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and friends. Much love--Roxie

I'm going to miss my little buddy, but I'll never forget him. Know that if everything ended with our death, earthly life would be without hope or comfort. But God does not allow us to vanish into eternal nothingness. God unites human beings in love and surrounds them with His own love. He does not destroy what He has created but brings it to perfection.
