Edward Van Tassel Obituary

VAN TASSEL Edward T., 51, of New York City, a Managing Director of Credit Suisse passed away on February 26, 2007. Born and raised in Ridgewood, NJ, he graduated from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Grammar School, Bergen Catholic High School, the University of Notre Dame and he received his graduate degree from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. Edward was the loving father of Schuyler, beloved son of Jane P. Van Tassel and the late Judge Edward J. Van Tassel, devoted brother of Maryon and her husband Robert Clark, Patricia and her husband John Cromie and James Van Tassel of New York City. He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews: Alex, Matthew, Christopher and Janie Clark and James, Katie, Christine and Megan Cromie. He leaves behind his aunts and uncles, cousins and friends who loved him dearly. Edward, a longtime active member of both the Upper Ridgewood Tennis Club and the New York Athletic Club, was passionate about the games of paddle tennis and tennis. He was an avid golf enthusiast and boater, enjoying both when he spent time at his home in the Hamptons. Edward was a supporter of many New York Charities including those focused on Children's Education and Mentoring Programs, Breast Cancer Research, and supporting the Arts. He was happiest when he was with his family and friends. He was the delight of his son and nieces and nephews with his funny sense of humor and unique ability to entertain them with riotous games and activities. He possessed an unquenchable thirst for learning and loved a good debate. Ed was fascinated by history, politics, and the social issues of our times and a collector of all new and creative gadgets that challenged the imagination. With boundless energy, he was an optimist who was always looking forward to the future. Ed was still involved in business discussions and vowed not to take down his Christmas tree until he was in remission. The remission he so fervently desired did not come but Ed's love of his son and family and friends and memories of his intelligence, thoughtfulness and boundless enthusiasm for work and life will continue to light the lives of those who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held at C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home on Sunday, March 4, 2007 from 2-4 PM and from 6-8 PM at 306 East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood, New Jersey. I'm saddened to learn of Ed's passing. Our high school days at BC are most memorable...and Ed was a reason for that during my fond years at Bergen. He was a good friend at that time and could play 'kick the can' with the best of us during lunchbreak ! Ed sat in front of me during several home rooms and I remember him as always nice...always.We did a science project together and got A+ from Mr.Sabatelli. I will pray for Ed and his family. I had not seen Ed since graduating from Bergen Catholic, but I remember him as a real nice fellow. As we grow older, a lesson to us all: identify what is important and cherish it. It seems that Ed did.

Please accept my sympathy for the untimely loss of Ed. While I hadn't seen or talked with Ed in many years, his passing is still hard. We'll keep him, his son and family in our prayers. God Bless!

I was very sad to hear of Ed's passing today. As I look at the list of our fellow graduates from Bergen, it is painful to note that we have lost many at too young an age. Ed's family and friends are on my heart and I pray that the The Lord will touch your hearts, hold you close to Himself and bring you His peace. God Bless!
