Virginia C. Curtin Mar. 3, 1921 - Jun. 25, 2014 UNCASVILLE - Virginia C. Curtin of Uncasville, died at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London on Wednesday, June 25th. Virginia was born on March 3, 1921 in New London to Helen (Connors) and Bernard Chapman. She graduated from Fitch High School in Groton and worked briefly at Electric Boat before marrying William J. Curtin on June 8, 1942 at St. John's Church in Uncasville. William predeceased Virginia on October 15, 2004. Virginia is survived by her loving family: sons and daughters in-law--Anthony & Joan Curtin of Uncasville, Brian & Ellen Curtin of Norwich, Timothy Curtin of Uncasville, Christopher and PattiAnn Curtin of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Thomas & Karen Curtin of Fairfield, and a daughter and son-in-law--Elizabeth & Harry Walenczyk of Oakdale. Virginia was also predeceased by one son, Kevin Curtin. Additionally, Virginia is survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins. Virginia was a devoted wife, mother and family matriarch. She raised her family on Maple Avenue in Uncasville and summered on Oxoboxo Lake in Oakdale. Her immediate and extended family and friends were her lifelong focus. As part of her homemaking career, she became an accomplished life coach, surgeon, legal arbitrator and marriage/dating counselor to her family. Virginia was always upbeat and smiling and loved to laugh, especially during a "hot game of cards." She enjoyed travelling with Bill the stories of living in MS and FL while Bill was stationed there in the Army were always a joy to hear-they enjoyed car trips throughout New England, and especially to their timeshare on the Cape. Virginia was happiest when she was surrounded by friends and family at her beloved cottage on Oxoboxo Lake, where she lived until her passing. Her other passions and hobbies included church activities, gardening, arts and crafts, reading and baking. Calling hours will be held on Friday June 27th, from 6 – 8 P.M. at the Church & Allen Funeral Home on Rte. 32 in Uncasville, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 28th at 10:00 A.M. at St. John's Church on Maple Avenue in Uncasville, immediately followed by burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Uncasville.
