WOODSTOCK - Norma L. Skerke, 87, of Woodstock, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, at her home.

She was born Aug. 25, 1919, in Des Plaines, to Hans and Hulda (Jaacks) Poehls. She married Harvey H. Skerke on Sept. 30, 1940, in Des Plaines.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake. She was the founder and operator of "The Red Barn" farm market in Woodstock. She will be remembered as a devoted homemaker, gardener, cook and baker.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Klehm of Woodstock; a son, John (Catherine) Skerke of Crystal Lake; five grandchildren, Robert (Elizabeth) Skerke, John Klehm, Elizabeth Klehm, Kathleen Skerke and Carrie Klehm; and a brother, Wallace Poehls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Margaret; a brother, Kenneth; a grandson, James Skerke; and a son-in-law, Chuck Klehm.

The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock. The visitation will continue from 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, until the 10 a.m. funeral at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 178 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake.

Interment will be in McHenry County Memorial Park in Woodstock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 178 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
