ROBERT SEGAL

SEGAL--Robert Lloyd, M.D.

Born October 1925 in Brooklyn and raised in Larchmont, Dr. Segal died August 2nd at age 92. After attending Swarthmore, he received his medical degree from the University of Buffalo. Admirably served his country as a physician in the Navy during World War II. An internist at Mount Sinai Medical Center, from 1947 until his retirement at age 84. Founding member of the Department of Endocrinology. He both loved taking care of his patients and studying thyroid disease. His marriage to Sydney Joelson Segal produced four children. She and their son David Owen Segal died in 1971. His second marriage produced two more children. He is survived by his five daughters and their husbands: Evelyn and Mark Lipton, Rosalind Segal and Michael Greenberg, Peggy Segal and David Topper, Kimberly and Benjamin Vinocour, Stephanie Fielding and Julian Merschen, by twelve grandchildren and one grandson-in-law: David Lipton, Sarah and Benjamin Lerer, Rachel Greenberg, Daniel Greenberg, Katherine Topper, Rebecca Topper, Elizabeth Topper, Ariana Vinocour, Sagan Vinocour, Natalie Vinocour, Sloane Fielding-Merschen, and Otto Fielding-Merschen. He is also survived by his loving companion of many years, Lilian Sicular. Services Sunday 12 Noon at "The Riverside" 76th and Amsterdam Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the David Owen Segal Lectureship at Mount Sinai Medical Center, or the charity of your choice.
