Melinda Ogilvy Obituary

OGILVY-Melinda Graeme. Died September 1 at home after a valiant battle with cancer in Old Greenwich, CT. The daughter of the late Florence Prince and George Levick Street, Jr. She was born on July 16, 1919 in Richmond, VA. She attended St. Catharine's School, then studied voice at Juilliard in New York City, leaving school to marry David Ogilvy, who became the founder of Ogilvy & Mather Advertising. After farming among the Amish in Lancaster, PA, she moved to Old Greenwich in 1948 and was active in the Greenwich Choral Society, the Greenwich Red Cross, the Old Greenwich Garden Club and the Bush Holley House. She is survived by her son David F. Ogilvy, his wife Anne, stepgrandsons Fridolf, William, Stillman and Christopher Hanson, step-granddaughters Charlotte and Wells Poler, and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers George Street, winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor, Abbot Street, her sister Betty Joy Reeves and her former husband. A Memorial celebration will be held Saturday, September 18, 4 PM at Christ Church, 254 East Putnam Avenue in Greenwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Greenwich Land Trust, Box 1152, Greenwich, CT 06836, Greenwich Historical Society, 29 Strickland Rd., Coscob, CT 06807 or American Red Cross, 99 Indian Field Road, Coscob, CT. 06807.
