MARIUCCIA ZERILLI-MARIMO Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 20, 2015.
ZERILLI-MARIMO--

Mariuccia. The NYU community grieves the loss of our good friend and Life Trustee, Baroness Mariuccia Zerilli- Marimo. An energetic and passionate advocate of Italian culture, she was the generous and committed force behind the creation of NYU's Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimo, which, thanks to the Baroness, serves not only as a home to NYU's Department of Italian Studies, but as one of the most prominent centers for Italian thought, culture and scholarship in the U.S. She conceived of the creation of Casa Italiana as an homage to her late husband, and added to its success by providing support for a literary award, programming, and faculty in Italian Studies. A bridge-builder, a person of great warmth and charm, a generous and discerning philanthropist, a proponent of all that is great in Italian culture, a New Yorker in her heart if not her origins, a lover of the arts and literature, a believer in NYU's global efforts, and a recipient of NYU's Gallatin Medal and President's Medal, her absence will be keenly felt at NYU. Her memory will be cherished throughout our campus--and especially among the members of the Casa Italiana community-- for all the wonderful works she helped build, foster, and support. Her family, friends, and loved ones are in our hearts on this sad day. William Berkley, Chair, NYU Board of Trustees John Sexton, President
