As an editor at NAL Jim designed cvers formy books for ten years. Not only was he exremely talented, he was terrific to work with and had a great
sense of humor.
In requesting donations to the ICU I hope this doen't indicate that he suffered a lot at the end.

As an illustration agent for over 30 years, I have met hundreds of art directors. To this day, Jim has remained one of my favorites...he enriched my professional life with his open door, welcoming smile, kindness, and generosity.

I met Jim when I was a teenager we were roommates at Pratt in the early 50's. We have remained friends over these many years and I am saddened by his loss. He was a wonderful person and brother in spirit too me. My prayers go out to Mary Ann and his family may he now rest in the arms of God. RIP James. Deacon Frank Chiappetta

The world's a poorer place without wonderful, exuberant, sweet and funny Jimmy P. Fondly remembering poker games, and shared backyard BBQs post-tennis in the 70's. Our hearts go out to MaryAnne and Lisa and Robbie and the Grandbabies. This really sucks.

Everyday working with Jim in the art department at NAL was always a joy for me. I've never looked forward to going to work anywhere as much as I did during those years. His sense of humor, artistic talent and creativity were truly remarkable. I know he will be missed by all who knew him.

Jim made a point of welcoming me to NAL many, many years ago, and always asked how I was doing as the new guy. I sold kids books, not Signet. Years later at Bantam he welcomed me again, and kept tabs on me there. I was in Juvenile sales, not adult. He could care less. So many of us thought he was handsome, cool, smart, warm, and had class. My deepest sympathies.

So very sorry to hear the news. I was shocked when Marely reached me with this. I enjoyed working for Jim and have thought of him often since his retirement. I hope to make the viewing, this afternoon, to pay my respects.

Worked with Jim at NAL and have many memories of cover meetings filled with his creativity. He was terrific to work with and could always find the humor in the craziness.

I first knew of Jim Plumeri, like so many millions of book buyers, through his brilliantly effective covers for N.A.L. When I then was privileged, as the Publisher of Bantam Dell, to be a colleague of Jim's for many years, I thanked my lucky stars every working day to be able to entrust our covers to such a tireless professional, a keen creative problem-solver, a sane man in an often insane world, a man who was virtually unflappable in the face of impossible deadlines and the thankless reality that while few people may actually read the books, everybody has an opinion about their covers. The fact that he accomplished so much for so long and managed to be such a smart, energetic, funny, and lovely man as well was almost too good to be true. But for those of us so fortunate to have known Jim and to have worked with him, we knew that Jim was true, good and true, no, the best.

Jim was my sister's father in law and we met on several family occasions. Always a gentleman, well spoken and entertaining. Jim was the kind of person you liked to be around. He is (already)sadly missed by his family, friends and those of us who only knew him in passing. RIP James, and peace to your family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I had to wait for Tony Greco to leave NAL so I could finally work for the man I so admired from afar. He was my boss but even more a mentor extraordinaire. I cherish the 7 years we worked together and the time freelancing after that. He had a HUGE influence on my work and my life.

Deeply saddened today. We can't imagine our lives without Jim factored into it. Our family is so much the better
because of his influence and friendship.

All the Maines loved Jim very much. We are so sad that we won't be vacationing or playing cards or just having him in our lives.
