Robert Sigsbee Obituary

Robert M. Sigsbee, 98, of Montgomery St., passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse.
He was born May 3, 1913 in Rochester, N.Y., the son of Jayson and Ella Evans Sigsbee and received his education in Madison schools. On Dec. 3, 1933, Robert was united in marriage to Esther M. Mumford in Durhamville. She predeceased him on Dec. 19, 2003. Robert was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving the European Theater. He was wounded twice during campaigns in France and Germany and was awarded the Purple Heart and two Bronze Service Stars. He retired as director of the Madison County Veterans Agency in 1978 after 20 years of service. He had also operated a general store in Madison from 1946 to 1962.
Robert was a member of the Madison United Methodist Church. He was a life member and past commander of the American Legion Post No 1556 of Madison; and a life member of the V.F.W. Post No. 1312 of Canastota.
Surviving is his daughter-in-law, Margaret Sigsbee of Madison; grandchildren, James and Robin Sigsbee of Vernon Center, Donna and Jim Weeks of Oriskany Falls, Robert W. and Debbie Sigsbee of West Winfield, Gerald and Nina Sigsbee of Newport News, Va., Ronald and Kim Sigsbee of Clifton Park, Sharon and Scott Young of Clinton, Theresa and Robert Kuhn of Marion; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Jean Waterman of Madison; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Donald Sigsbee in 2010, and a grandson, Cpl. John Sigsbee in 2008.
Funeral services for Robert M. Sigsbee of Hamilton, will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton. Interment will be in the Madison Village Cemetery in the spring. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service.
