Mrs Burns was my 4th grade teacher at Marshall Grade School. She was my favorite grade school teacher. A very kind lady. Unfortunately she lost her son that year a was unable to return to our classroom. Her loss affected our entire class. I recall my mother and Alberta Cook who were room mothers took myself and Mike with them to deliver flowers to her home along Sugar Creek. Never saw her again but thought of her many times over the years when reminiscing our school days. She was a very compassionate teacher. My memories of her will alway be treasured.

I know Ellen's daughter Julie and family better than I actually knew Ellen. However, it was because of the opportunity to serve many years as pastor to Julie and family that my wife Mary (we served as co-pastors) and I grew to appreciate Ellen as well.
Ellen's appreciation for nature, art, and well made things, like old furniture, were evidenced by where she lived and with what she surrounded herself. I had the opportunity to restore several pieces of beautiful furniture for Ellen, and it was a joy to share together our imaginations for the stories those pieces had to tell!
Within a couple weeks before Ellen's death we had a card in the mail from her. She was expressing her sorrow to us for a recent house fire we had experienced. The card symbolized her presence to life and others up until the end.
With gratefulness,
