West, Calvin L.

Calvin L. West of Binghamton, 87, passed away on the 3rd of June at the James G. Johnston Nursing Home. Calvin was predeceased by his daughter, Carolyn Buzzerd 1990; brother, Raymond West 2008. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Claire F. (Fleming) West; children, Jeanne & Steve Seibert of Harrisburg, Mark Stephen West of Fort Collins, CO, Leslie & Robert Leith of Flemington, NJ, Larry & Brenda West of Endwell; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Edwin & Anna Mae West of East Stroudsburg, PA; also several nieces and nephews. Calvin served in the US Navy in WWII and then went into the Navy Reserve. He then served in the US Army National Guard during the Korean War followed by the Army Reserve until retirement, all together nearly 40 years of service. He belonged to the American Legion Post 80 as well as the VFW Post 478. He was a longtime and very active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church where he had served as Treasurer. Calvin was a longtime member of the Southertiersman Barbershoppers. He was a retiree from Singer Link where he was a Tool and Die Maker. He also was a driver for the American Cancer Society for many years. He loved to paint landscapes with oil paints and loved the outdoors. Calvin was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, he will be dearly missed by many. A Memorial Service will take place at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 12 noon. Friends may stop at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
