Kovac, Helen (Gerich)

Binghamton: Helen (Gerich) Kovac, 98, of Binghamton, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday morning, January 23, 2013 at the Ideal Senior Living Center. She was predeceased by her husband Paul Kovac; three sisters, Mary Rosenzweig, Julia "Pat" Brown and Irene Kuhn; four brothers, William, Andrew, Michael and George Gerich. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen and Gerald Knickerbocker, Donna and Michael McQueeney, all of Binghamton; a son, Gregory Kovac, Philadelphia, PA; four grandsons, Grant and Cindy Knickerbocker, Gavin and Jennifer Knickerbocker, Matthew McQueeney and Ryan McQueeney; four great granddaughters, Rachel, Jill, Kara and Katrina Knickerbocker; brother-in-law, Joseph Kuhn; also several nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Binghamton. Helen had previously worked at Link Aviation and Robintech. She loved playing bingo and was revered for her delicious baked goods and cooking. The family would like to thank Dr. Shawn Berkowitz, Maureen McPhee, the staff on Daffodil Court and everyone at Ideal Senior Living Center for the excellent care given to Helen. Funeral Services will be held at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc. 150 Main Street, Johnson City, Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Slovak Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, 401 Hayes Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760, or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005 Boston, MA 02241 in Helen Kovac's memory.
