Vestal: Thomas A. Barbour, 75, passed away at home on February 27, 2015. Tom was born in Buchanan, MI, but was raised primarily in Indiana and attended Purdue University. He is survived by his wife Irene; his son, Dale (Donna); his daughter, Jennifer (Greg); his five grandchildren, David, Sierra, Christopher, Joshua, Alexander and one great grandson, Cooper. Tom is also survived by his three brothers; Jerry (Marcia), Dick (Mary Anne), Bobby (Debbie); three brothers-in-law; George (Mary), David (Teena), and Brian. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews both here and abroad.

Tom served proudly in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Proteus (AS19) primarily in the Holy Loch, Scotland where he met and married his wife. After being discharged from the Navy, he then became a long term employee of Singer-Link. He was extremely active in many Masonic organizations and enjoyed the brotherhood of his many friends. He also enjoyed reading, cooking, music, woodworking, golf and fishing with his best friend Paul Dofton. Tom was a past President of the Vestal School Board and also served on the BOCES School Board.

As per Tom's wishes, his body was donated to medical science. A Masonic memorial service will be held at a later date. Tom will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him. The family wishes to thank the Vestal Police Department and the Vestal Emergency Squad for their kindness and consideration. In lieu of flowers may we suggest becoming an organ donor or making a donation in Tom's memory to the; Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607 or to the charity of one's choice. I've never forgotten Tom's kindness and sense of humor while I was at Link. He was one of a kind, and my husband and I often mention him. Tom made the world a better place.

Tom was a really good human being, and he combined a strong work ethic with a sense of humor. Tom loved his wife above everything and was a friend to all. When I worked at Link, he made the department a fun place to spend one's time.

Dear Barbour Family,
I grew-up with such fond memories of your family up the road. My kids have heard my many stories of Halloween when Mr. Barbour would dress-up and answer the door in the most unusual costumes to scare us. You were a wonderful family to grow-up around. Thank you for the fondest memories, please find comfort in that.

Dear Irene and family: I just learned about Tom's passing. I received an email from another ex-Linker who is now working in FL. I am SO incredibly sorry for the loss of your husband and best friend. He was a joy to work for, and a REAL gentleman, who also had a "wicked" sense of humor. To this day, we remember some of his comments about the world in general! Tom made a positive difference, and that's the most one can say about a life. Deepest sympathy from me and husband Lou. Marie Gurske, Starrucca, PA

My condolences to the whole Family on Your loss. Tom was always very nice to Me, and I think of Him as a very laid back, intelligent Man, with a bit of Mischief in Him. My thoughts are with You all at this time.

Irene, our thoughts and prayers go out to you on your loss. Tom was a true gentleman and neighbor.
He always had an a positive spirit when we chatted with him as neighbors. Many times when he stopped to pick up the mail we ended up just having a good old heart to heart conversation. He will be missed. May your memories be your treasures of strength at this difficult time.
