Peter Gernes Obituary
Peter P. Gernes
of Binghamton
Peter P. Gernes, 90 years of age, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 11, 2010, at Wilson Hospital. He was the only child of the late Joseph and Anna Gernes. Peter was a Johnson City High School graduate and a US Air Force veteran of World War II. Peter retired from Singer-Link in 1982, and was a 52-year member of the American Legion. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Rose T. Gernes. He is survived by a daughter, Lila Burlingame and her husband, Grayson of Endicott; three grandchildren, Kim Burlingame and partner, Karen Kiriazis of Ithaca, Skip Burlingame and wife, Joann of Binghamton, Patricia Merrell and husband, Derek of Binghamton. Peter is also survived by great-grandchildren, Michael Burlingame, Andrew Burlingame, Hunter Merrell, Matthew Hatch, Katelyn Merrell, Zoe and Chris Kiriazis. Peter loved his daily walks at the Oakdale Mall, driving everywhere for his shopping excursions, and being with his longtime best friend, Genny.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday at 8:00 p.m. at the Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc., 96 Glenwood Ave., Binghamton, NY. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday from 7:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 8:00 p.m.

So sorry to hear of your loss. We visited with Pete most days at the Red Oak and with both Pete & Rose in the years past. They both were very lovely people. We certainly will miss Pete... a very nice man.

Kim, Lila and families I am so so sorry for your lose,but you do know he's in a better place and back with Rose. You have many great memories and know that his life was truly blessed. My thoughts and prayer are with you all and you know I love you.

I was very fortunate to have met Poppy and know that he will be sorely missed by all who loved him. The stories that Kimmie would share with me about Poppy were priceless and I surely will not forget them.
