Helen May Obituary

May, Helen Andzulis

Johnson City: Helen Andzulis May, born August 16, 1916 in East Ararat, Pennsylvania died peacefully Saturday evening March 2, 2013. She was predeceased by her husband Howard May, her daughter Darlene Franks, granddaughters Bonnie Garner and Brenda Wells, brothers Joseph, Victor and Benjamin Slamas, and brothers Mitchell, William and Albert Andzulis. She was also predeceased by sisters Roberta Studhalter and Ann Zeilinski. She is survived by her son George May (Helen), her two sisters Winifred Rezner and Eleanor Verboys. She is also survived by her granddaughters Mary Ellen Gates (Walter), Elizabeth Ann Brooks (Lawrence), Barbara Jean Kaminski (Carl), and grandson Robert Young (John). She is also survived by several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and other extended family. She was an amazing woman, a pioneer in her time. She worked for over 50 years for Singer Link and had the honor of working with many engineers and met many astronauts. Link flew her and her husband to Johnson Space Center in Texas where she met John Glenn, her favorite astronaut. There wasn't any electrical problem she couldn't fix. Her work ethic was second to none and her business acumen was amazing. She lived in Johnson City in an EJ home for over 65 years. She enjoyed her trips out every day, whether it be the daily Dunkin Donuts trips, the weekly hairdresser trips and lunch after at Wendy's or just holding court on her front porch every summer. Thank you to her family, friends and caregivers and Dr. Gasparis who over the last several years have allowed her to stay in her own home. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 10:30am at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc. 428 Main Street Johnson City. Burial will follow in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at 9:30am until the time of the service at the Barber Memorial Home.

Helen was one of my best friends and Im going to miss her dearly. We had so many good times while I was her cargiver. She was one of the most caring, loving, honest friends that I could ever want to meet. We had so many good times at Cortese, Cosmos, dunkin donuts, and anywhere else she wanted to go! It was a great honor to be part of her life for the past 2 1/2 years! I know I will never find another senior that was as wonderful as you, my little Helen! Thank you for giving me such great wisdom and courage to go on! You will never know how much your love meant to me....... Love you always, Nancy xxoo
