William Baier Obituary

Baier, William (Bill) John

Montrose, PA: William (Bill) John Baier, 67, 110 Journeys End Lane, Montrose, PA passed away on October 29, 2014. He was born the son of the late Josef and Helen (Papusha) Baier on February 28, 1947 at Hancock, NY. Bill will be greatly missed by his loving wife of forty-three years, Susan (Lewis) Baier, daughter, Kimberly Renee Nadge, two sons and daughter-in-law, Jonathan Jay Baier, James Jay and Danielle (Faulkner) Baier, three grandchildren, Marley Helena and Maceo Kingston Nadge and Malachi Jay Baier, brother and sister-in-law, Josef and Lucy (Soares) Baier, mother-in-law, Eleanor Lewis, sister-in-law and husband, Joanne and Bill Himko, brothers-in-law Gary Lewis, Harold and Jennifer (Bird) Lewis, special cousins, Sandra and Gene Caswell, nieces and nephew. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Robert W. and James R. Baier. As a decorated Vietnam combat medic with the 11th army regiment advanced from a field medic to a dust-off medic (helicopter rescue) to a hospital liaison at the 24th and 93rd evac hospitals in Long Bien and the 3rd field hospital in Saigon. Because of MOS proficiently and field commissions, Bill advanced to the rank of medical specialist E-5 with less than a year of service time. He spent numerous "down time" at Vietnamese children hospitals and orphanages. Service related life memberships: 11th Armored Cavalry's Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Montrose Post 5642) and The American Legion Dept. of PA, (Montrose Post 154). Bill worked as an electrical/mechanical designer under his own corporation, Baier & Baier Inc. and numerous other sub-contracting firms throughout the United States. He enjoyed many repeat contracts with IBM, Link, GE, Bendix, Honeywell, Xerox and Kodak among others. He developed the phrase "It's not who you know, it's who knows you". With the help of his talented and best friend Wayne Crayton (and other local craftsmen), Bill built and/or remodeled several commercial and residential buildings in the Montrose, PA area. He built his present home on Lake Montrose and remodeled his winter home in Holly Hill, FL. Over the years, with the help of family and friends, he owned and operated The New Leaf Restaurant, The Town House Restaurant and Rathskeller, The County Seat Hotel and Inn America, encompassing over 40 years of restaurant and hospitality services. The personal and medical care provided by Erin Young, MS, RN, FNP-BC Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practioner and Dr. Frank Paolozzi, Hematology/Oncology and the entire staff at the Veterans Health Network of Update New York was beyond comparison. Also special thanks to our children; and to Helen and the staff from Hospice of the Sacred Heart for helping to care for Bill. Per request, after cremation, there will be no public viewing or service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the convenience of family and friends. At this time Bill would encourage every service Veteran to claim the benefits "You Earned". Your family's financial future may be at risk. Cards only to family members would be appreciated. "It has been an adventurous life - Thanks for the friendships and patronships." Professional services have been arranged by the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home, Montrose, PA.

Bill Baier
28 Feb 1947- 29 Oct 2014
Brother Bill. I'm glad I spent the last 12 days of your life with you. Not to see you pass on but to reflex on the good times in our lives. From the time Pop picked Mom and you up from the Hancock Hospital during a snow storm with a horse drawn sleigh giving me a second brother. The next year came the third brother, so then there were the four Baier boys.
Remembering the games we played, the sleigh riding on the hill behind the house, bicycles, go carts, cars, playing pool, family trips, the good times and the mischievous times.
As we grew up we became closest of the four Baier boys partly because of Jimmy's loss of life at an early age and Robert with his own agenda, but mostly because of common interest. We keep in touch, between in person visits, by email and phone, at least a couple times a week. Sometimes with questions or advice for each other, sometimes just to talk about an experience we had or about our families, things we wanted to do or things we had done. I have caught myself at times, since your passing, grabbing for my phone to give you a call.
Over the years we worked a number of engineering jobs together and we were involved in most of each other's major remodeling and building projects. There are also memories of you in my wedding and I in yours.
So now there is me, the oldest of the Baier Boys. No more brothers, no parents, but I do have my wife, Lucy and my children and grandchildren, extended family and a cousin.
My deepest condolence to Sue and family, I will stay in touch with you, your children and grandchildren.
RIP my brother, our time together was to short, there was still so much to do.
Your brother Joe and family
