Alfred S. Williams, Jr.

Alfred S. Williams, Jr., died unexpectedly Saturday, November 18, 2006. He was born in Archbald, Pa., in 1924, the son of Alfred S. Williams, Sr. and Ruth Anna Koch. Al was predeceased in 1999 by his wife of 51 years, Esther M. Brown. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia and David Westgate, Mary Jean Williams; and four sons and three daughters-in-law, Alfred and Rose S. Williams III, Eric and Kathy Williams, Michael and Susan Williams, and Matthew "Willy" Williams; and one "adopted" daughter, Marty Schmidt; 12 grandchildren; one sister, Marge and Harold Jennings; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He served aboard the USS Bogue CVE 9 in WW II as Chief Electronics Technicians Mate after being sent to advanced schooling at MIT and PENN State. After the war he graduated from Rutgers The State University with a BS in Electrical Engineering and moved to the Broome County area in 1952. He worked at Link (and spin offs) from 1952 until he retired as a Senior Staff Scientist, and was a Co-Inventor of Microflite and specialized in Navigation, Aerodynamics, Control Loading, Helicopters and Fixed wing aircraft. He was an ardent fisherman and loved to help family and friends by setting up their PC's and fixing them. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Camden, N.J., and active for many years in the Broome County area.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2006, 10 a.m. at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, with the Rev. L.P. Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of gifts, "In his remembrance, do something for a friend or relative whenever an opportunity arises."
