David Woods Obituary

David Louis Woods, 67, of Cumming, GA, passed away on Tuesday, November 9th, at the Embracing Hospice of Cumming. David was born in Donora, PA on January 3, 1943 to Fred and Catherine Woods. After graduation from Bentleyville High School, he went on to attend the Citadel Military College of South Carolina. Mr. Woods served in the US Army in Vietnam as a reconnaissance pilot, exceeding 1,000 combat missions and was awarded numerous medals including three Distinguished Flying Crosses. After serving his country, Mr. Woods worked in sales and management for 40 years in aerospace and defense, to include the Boeing Apollo-Saturn V Man on the Moon Program. Woods served as International Sales Director for the Singer Link Flight Simulation Division in Binghamton and later served as Corporate Vice President of Business Development for Signal Technology Inc. in Danvers, MA. He was also with Scientific-Atlanta as V.P. of sales in Atlanta, GA from 1989 to early retirement in 1999. Mr. Woods was very active in numerous service organizations including American Legion Post 307, VFW Post 9143 and Vietnam Veterans of America, all located in Cumming, GA. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Elaine (Zyskowski) Woods; and his three faithful West Highland White Terriers. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Roseanne Mollen (husband Joseph and nieces Nichole and Christina), Renee Thiman (husband Scott); and his brother-in-law, Edward Zyskowski (wife Anna). He is also survived by his aunt, Edith Weygandt; his cousins, Merlyn and Michael Bost; cousins, Derek and Mayumi Weygandt and their children Mitchell, Bruce and Zena, and his cousins Eric and Betty Utt Weygandt. Visiting hours will be Monday, November 15th, from 4 to 8:00 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 16th, at 11:30 a.m. Donations may be made to The Citadel Foundation, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409. Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory, Cumming, GA is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be made at www.ingramfuneralhome.com.
