Donald Nanius Obituary

Nanius, Donald A.

Endicott: Donald A. Nanius of Endicott, NY, passed away at home with his family after a brief illness on June 28th, 2011. He was 76 years old. He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife of 51 years, Theresa; a sister, Ann and brothers, William and Thomas. He is survived by two sons and daughters in law; Mark and Melissa of Bella Vista, Arkansas and David and Donna of Ithaca, NY; two grandsons, David and Dustin of Ithaca, NY; a brother, Robert of Uniondale, PA and two sisters in law; Helen of Syracuse, NY and Jean of Ocala, Fl. He is also survived by several cousins. Donald was a Korean War Veteran serving with the 293rd Engineering Battalion in Baumholder, Germany. He was a graduate of the University of Scranton and was employed by the United States Government prior to his employment with Singer/CAE Link Flight Simulation from which he retired after 30 years of service. Donald spent most of his retirement years compassionately caring for his wife. He enjoyed NY Mets baseball, NY Giants football, reading, crossword puzzles, walking and fishing with his sons. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Endicott, NY. The family would like to thank Dr. David Zander, Dr. John Miller and the staff at Lourdes Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. At Donald's request there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are being handled by the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc.

Donald (grandpa)was always excited to hear stories of me and my dad (david) going out fishing or hunting. he had an amazing passion for baseball, he was always thrilled to hear about me playing baseball. he was also very proud of my brother when he graduated high school... unfortunately he will not be able to see my graduation pictures, but he will still be very proud. the memories of him will live on forever. i wish the three generations of nanius men got to spend more time together. he was always sad to see us leave to go home. we love you always and forever. And thank you to every one who helped him out

Don and I were old friends at PMVS ,in fact he took me to my first prom,he was always such a kind and caring person,may he rest in peace-my sympathy to all his family.

I knew Donnie since the first grade. He always set a good example for everyone. Polite, caring, I am sure his passing is a great loss to his family and friends.

I could always tell by the look on your face after a fishing trip with David who caught the big one. You would show me with your hands how big your fish was compared to David's. Not sure how many were fish stories but Bill and I enjoyed hearing them. We are truely going to miss you Don. You were a great friend. You will always be in our hearts and in our prayers.
