Harold Ford Gardner
of Sayre, Pa.
Harold Ford Gardner, 107, passed away Monday, October 16, 2006, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pa. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret in 1986; his two sons, Dean S. Gardner and Richard W. Gardner; granddaughter, Karen Shumaker; and sister, Pirnie Noback. He is survived by his daughters, Sarah Gardner Shumaker, Gertrude Gardner Hughes; grandchildren, Barbara S. Levitt, Linda M. Shumaker, Frederick F. Shumaker, Robert D. Shumaker, Rachel G. Stanton, Judi G. Snyder, Stephen Avery, Catherine A. Hallett, Peter Avery, Kenney Gardner, Timothy Gardner; 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Harold was a pioneer in aviation, being one of the first pilots in this area. He was the oldest living veteran of WWI in Pa. Harold worked as a machinist and mechanic for IBM, Endicott Johnson, City of Binghamton, and Link Aviation, as well as Pratt Whitney during WWII, trouble shooting aircraft engines. He loved guns, clocks and old cars. Harold's family wishes to thank the staff and doctors at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital for their excellent care.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Church, 44 Main St., Binghamton. The Rev. Noreen P. Suriner will officiate. Burial will be in Floral Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Hoyt Room from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harold's name to the charity of one's choice.
