Marion B. (Opeka) Orzel
of Johnson City
Marion B. (Opeka) Orzel, 92, of Johnson City, went to be with the Lord Sunday evening, November 9, 2008, at the Susquehanna Nursing Center. She was predeceased by her two husbands, Paul C. Opeka and Stanley J. Orzel; a son, Paul S. Opeka; two grandchildren, Michelene and Paul Opeka; a great-granddaughter, Taryn C. Russo; also four brothers, Maurice, Patrick, Benjamin and Jim Largey; one sister, Alice Emert. She was born November 1, 1916 in St. Mary's, Pa., the daughter of the late John and Barbara (Schauer) Largey. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gertrude and Phillip Mahan, Fla., Mary Ann and Willard Lamphere, Sandy Creek, N.Y.; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Karen Opeka, Johnson City; a daughter-in-law, Edwina (Lou) Opeka, Johnson City; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Marie Kariam, Johnson City. She was a member of St. James Church, Johnson City. She was a former employee of the Endicott Johnson Corporation, Singer-Link, and Stow Manufacturing.
Funeral services will be held at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City, Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. at St. James Church where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the St. James Church Memorial Fund, 147 Main St., Johnson City, N.Y. 13790, in Marion B. (Opeka) Orzel's memory.
