Nora Ferris Hamdan, 97, of Binghamton, died at home in the loving arms of her son, Tuesday, July 24, 2007. She was born in 1910 in Damascus, Syria. She was predeceased by her parents; and her husbands, Abraham Hamdan and Ferris N. Ferris; her son, Joseph Hamdan; brother, Fred Tyneway; and a sister, Mary Jallad. She is survived by her son, Fred and Catherine Hamdan; grandchildren, Valerie Jasinski, Cindy and Mike Anthony, Fred and Emerita Hamdan, Linda and Mike Collins, Laurie Prego; ten great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; very special nephew, Richard Jallad; and other nieces and nephews. Nora was the epitome of the American dream. In 1924, she, along with her family, immigrated through Ellis Island and settled in Binghamton. It was there that she married and raised a family. She worked at Endicott-Johnson, Link Aviation and Binghamton General Hospital. Nora was dedicated to her family and determined to give them a good life and lived with great personal sacrifice. In turn, she was adored by her family and friends. Nora will be greatly missed. The family wishes to express a special "Thank You" to Dr. Abdeleziam and staff for the excellent care and compassion. Also a thank you to Ideal Home Care and STIC; we would be lost without them.
Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Friday at 11 a.m. Rev. Laurence J. Lord will officiate. Burial will be in Floral Park Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
