Norman Hammond Obituary

Hammond, Norman John

Endwell: Norman John Hammond, 82, of Endwell, passed away at Lourdes Hospital, Tuesday, May 24, 2011. In 2001, Norm was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Rudolph) Hammond, whom he had married in 1952. Also predeceased by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his beloved family: wife, Patricia Belford Hammond, Endwell; four daughters, Karen (Douglas) Leonard, Endicott, Kim (Timothy) Conzola, Endicott, Kristine (Stephen) Skinner, Oswego, NY and Kathryn (John) Jaremko, Buffalo, NY; one son, Norman (Leslie) Hammond, Tucson, AZ; one stepdaughter, Patrice (Samuel) Allgood, and family, Atlanta, GA; two stepsons, James Belford, Buffalo, NY and Jeffrey Belford and family, Kentucky; two sisters, Frances (Leo) Cassidy and Martha May, both of Michigan; thirteen grandchildren, Michelle (Allen) Leonard-Brandt, Jessica Leonard, Nathan, Kellie, Kyle, Nicole Hammond, Patrick, Elizabeth, Nicholas Conzola, Sarah, Matthew, Kristen Skinner and Andrew Jaremko; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Molly; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Norm was a veteran of the US Air Force. In 1966, he moved to Endwell to work for Singer Link. He retired in 1992. He played pinochle with a group of friends affectionately known as "the card club" for decades. He loved to volunteer at Christ the King Church, especially cooking for the Golden Age Luncheons and helping with the fish dinners. He met his wife, Patricia Belford Hammond, at their "morning Mass group" and married her in 2004. This special group of friends and his wife became the source of so much joy and support for Norm, especially in the final years of his life. At St. Ambrose Church, Norm was a lector, Eucharistic minister and volunteer in the soup kitchen. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, daily word puzzles, watching movies, traveling and cooking, most notably his spiedies and steaks. The family would like to thank Dr. Struck, Dr. Ryder, Debra Hoy and the staff at Lourdes Hospital Seton 1 and 1 West for their excellent care of Norm throughout his illness. Norm's children would especially like to thank Patricia for the loving care and devotion that she has shown toward their father throughout their marriage. Funeral Services will be held Saturday 9:30 a.m. from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Ambrose Church at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Friday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Norm's memory may be made to St. Ambrose Church, 203 Washington Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.

To: Karen & Doug Leonard and the entire Hammond Family I am so sorry to hear of my Uncle Bud's (Norm's) passing, and please accept our heart felt condolences. He will be in our prayers this week. During the five years that I lived in Glen Aubrey, NY; I got to know him well. He was a great hunting partner. I just started a new job two weeks ago and unfortunately I have no vacation days yet to use to come to New York right now.

Rest in Peace Norm, we worked together many years at Link. I will always remember your, 'get it done' attitude. I was one of the 'Coneheads' that's what you called us 'Software' guys. I will never forget you. I have got the word out about your passing. My prayers are with the Hammond family at this time. Absent from the body, present with the Lord.

Norm,
I'm so sad to hear of your Dad's passing. He interviewed me when Ifirst started working @ Link in 1975 and bought me a cup of coffee and made me feel like part of the Link family. I hope all the good memories will carry you through this dark time.
Sincerely,
Terry Rockwell
