Stanley Hayes Obituary

Hayes, Stanely I. Sr.

Greene, NY: Born July 2, 1916, to Irvine and Juanita Hayes, Stanley departed peacefully May 5, 2012 after a remarkable life. Stan developed himself into a true renaissance man traveling a multi-faceted life focused on positively affecting the lives of others. He began his career as an engineer, designer and project leader for Link Aviation, leading simulator development for NASA Gemini and Apollo space programs. Throughout his life, he re-created himself, deepening and broadening his achievements to include pilot, minister, counselor, entrepreneur and Beefalo breeder. But at the core of his being, Stan's focus was on loving and helping others, serving on state and local task forces for older persons and low income families, Action for Older Persons, America Civic Association, and co-developing retirement training programs. Until his death, Stan was intimately involved in the establishment and development of the Center for Technology & Innovation in Binghamton, NY. As inspiring father of seven children, and an extended global family, his home welcomed all racial and ethnic backgrounds. He is preceded in death by his wife, Verna Hayes and brother, Woodrow Hayes, and is survived by his children and their spouses, Ruth (Hayes) and John Covelli, Bonnie (Hayes) and John Yohe, Stanley "Bud" and Cynthia Hayes, Jr., Leilani (Hayes) Macmillan, Philip and Kathy Hayes, Larraine Hayes, and Karl and Jeanne Hayes; along with 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions on Stan's behalf may be made to the Center for Technology & Innovation, 321 Water St, Binghamton, NY 13901; or to the Community of Christ Church., 325 Burbank Ave, Johnson City, NY 13790. Notice of Celebration's of Stanley's Life to be held at Community of Christ Church and CT&I will be forthcoming. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com
