Susan Randall Mathewson Taylor, 86, of Binghamton, N.Y., passed away Friday, January 9, 2009, surrounded by family and friends. She was born in St. Albans, West Virginia to Homer and Florence Mathewson. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond H. Taylor; and son, Mark D. Taylor. She is survived by daughters, Linda Taylor and Robert Juraska, Binghamton, N.Y.; Sharon Shambaugh and her husband Michael, Hilo, Hawaii; foster daughter, Sandra Renoad and her husband, Rick, Firestone, Colorado; and honorary daughter, Sherri Shoff, Penn Yan, N.Y.; granddaughters, Jordan DeLorme and her husband, Joshua, College Station, Tex.; Haley Taylor-Juraska, Binghamton; Tami Juraska and Marc Burford, Binghamton, N.Y.; Meggin Juraska and her husband, Travis Skaggs, NYC; Kawika McKeague and his wife, Heidi; Kekoa McKeague, Maleko Outcault; Kuulei Outcault all of Hilo, Hawaii; and great-great-granddaughters, Riley Burford, Binghamton and Madeleine McKeague, Hilo. She is also survived by her sisters, Pauline Raish and Beverly Boyd; and her brothers, Edwin Lockwood and his wife, Mary, and James Lockwood and his wife, Joan; many nieces and nephews, but most especially by her dear niece, Bonnie Beagell and her husband, Don; and nephew Michael Colsten and his wife, Lee, and their respective families; as well as by her dear friend, David Peacock. Although she held many jobs during her life, including Links and Robintech, her last job for many years was caring for the residents of the Willow Point Nursing Home, giving hugs to patients who hadn't received affection in years or been visited by family members. An avid reader, she was passionate about politics – a liberal to the end. A member of the Brookvale United Methodist Church, she loved working with the children and always remembered the sick and elderly. Caring for her family, friends and neighbors brought her great joy.
A celebration of Susan's life will be held Monday at 11:15 a.m., at the Brookvale United Methodist Church, corner of Colesville & Canfield Roads in Colesville, N.Y., with Pastor Gordon Brownlow officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Vestal Rd,, Vestal, N.Y. 13850.

I knew Sue because I bought the house on Mill St when it was in foreclosure. I lived upstairs for 3-years. She was quite something. Always wanted to talk politics and always interested in how my kids were doing - taking a look at their photos. I was lucky enough to have made her day a couple of times, installing a ground fault circuit on her counter so she would not have to go into the basement to reset the breaker. Although I have not seen her in a while after selling the place and moving to Colorado, she will forever be etched in my mind.

Aunt Sue(she told me to address her this way). will forever be my inspiration. She always had time for me. Her little table was one of my favorite places-so warm and welcoming. I miss her.

My heart goes out to Sue's family at this time. Sue was a very special friend and confidante to me during my years of association with the Brookvale Church in the mid-to late 80's, and even after I was moved to a different position. I have held her kindness and support close to my heart and will always treasure my memories of her.

I m truly honored to have been Sue's honorary daughter. Since 1958 she was a part of my life and rescued me from many falls and troubles. Her soft spoken sweet disposition was very calming to me throughout my childhood. I will miss her insights on church and politics!
Lyn and Sharon you are in my thoughts and prayers and how I wish I could be with you today.
Love, Sherri

Knowing Sue for the short time that I did, I always marveled at how sharp and intuitive she was about world and local events. She was a strong believer in the right of free speech. I will keep what I learned from her as value in life. My condolences to her loving family.

Grandma Sue,

There's not a day that's going to go by that I won't miss you. You always put a smile on everyone's face. You helped so many people, including me, and I couldn't be more thankful. And yes, I will always remember to "read read read". I learned that Goodbyes will always hurt, a picture never replaces having been there, memories good or bad can bring tears, and words can never replace those feelings. You're now my blessing from above.

With All My Love,
Your Granddaughter,Haley
