Violet T. Ferranti, 87, of Binghamton, died peacefully and unexpectedly at home Monday, April 18, 2011. Violet was born in Binghamton and was the second oldest of four siblings. She was predeceased by her parents, Giacinto and Mary Ferranti; and by a sister, Mary Theresa Ferranti. She is survived by a sister, Margaret Ferranti; and a brother, John Ferranti, both of Binghamton; a niece and her husband, Lisa and Richard Behr, Castle Creek; a great-nephew and his wife, Richard and Valerie Behr, Whitney Point; great-niece, KT Behr, Binghamton; and several cousins. Violet graduated from St. Patrick's Academy, Binghamton, and then began her lifelong career and passion in art. In her youth, she worked for E.A. Link and Ansco before becoming an industrial artist and design engineer for the IBM Corporation. She was a Fine Artist who specialized in oil painting and had many art shows in the Binghamton area. Violet was an avid reader right up to the end. She enjoyed exploring the unknowns of the universe and read everything from Zecharia Sitchin to Stephen Hawking. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Friday at 9:30 a.m. Reverend Paul N. Machira, Parochial Vicar of St. Patrick's Church and St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Binghamton, will officiate. Burial will be in Slovak Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Thursday from 5-7 p.m.
