Mr. William Shelley, Jr.
of Sanitaria Springs
Mr. William Shelley, Jr., 55, passed away suddenly Thursday, February 25, 2010, at his home in Sanitaria Springs. He was born in Johnson City, New York, on September 25, 1954. He graduated in 1972 from Maine-Endwell High School. He then served his country as a Jet Engine Mechanic and Crew Chief with the United States Air Force from which he was honorably discharged at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska in 1976. After his military service he worked a variety of jobs, among them was as a Certified Mechanic for aircraft simulators with the Singer Company, Link Division. He then discovered his calling in life working to assist others in bettering themselves and launched himself into a career in social services. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Social Science from Binghamton University in 1995. He applied this degree in jobs with the Broome County Probation Department, the Tioga County Department of Social Services in Preventive and Child Protection Services and with the Office of Children and Family Services in Albany, New York. During his personal time he committed himself to his two passions, Harley Davidson motorcycles and golf. William is survived by his mother, Marilyn (Briggs) Evans of Sanitaria Springs; his father, William Shelley, Sr. of Newark Valley; his stepfather, Richard Evans of Sanitaria Springs; four siblings, Rick and wife, Libbie Shelley of Endwell, David and wife, Karen Shelley of Newark Valley, Rob and wife, Dolores of Vestal, and Becky and husband, Mike Dale of Morganton, NC; two former stepdaughters, Alicia and Crystal; four nieces, eight nephews; and his dear, dear friend, Marcie Crossman. He is predeceased by his son, Derrick Shelley.
A Time of Reflection (personal comments from friends and family) will be held Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 8 p.m. at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Those wishing, kindly consider memorial contributions to Broome County Animal Shelter or Project P.A.W.
