Grace E. Hughes

Grace E. Hughes, 90, Blandon, passed away Dec. 6, 2008, at 12:35 p.m. in her residence.

Her husband, Theodore W. Hughes, passed away Oct. 17, 1982.

Born in Ruscombmanor Township, she was a daughter of the late Oscar D. and Katie E. (Noll) Link.

She served in various secretarial positions, first at Textile Machine Works, Wyomissing, and O.W. Lindgren, Shillington, and then at Bachman Bakery, Reading.

She and her husband then owned and operated the former Ted's Soft Ice Cream, Blandon, from 1960 until 1976. From 1976 until retiring in 1986, they owned and operated the former Ted's Soft Pretzels, also in Blandon.

She was a 1934 graduate of Oley Valley High School and attended a business school in Reading for one year.

She was a member of the former Oley Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by a son, Theodore E. Hughes, Fleetwood; and two daughters, Carol Ann, wife of Robert Wright, Birdsboro; and Gloria E., wife of Ronald Kemmerer Sr., Blandon.

Other survivors include six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Kathryn Christian and Pearl Stump; and three brothers: Harold Link, Carl Link and James Link.

Funeral services in Blankenbiller Funeral Home, 423 Main St., Oley, will be at the family's convenience, with burial in Friedens Cemetery, Oley.
