Katrina Smith Obituary

KATRINA ASHLEY SMITH, 30 MACHESNEY PARK - Katrina Ashley Smith, 30, of Machesney Park left this world to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012. Katrina was born July 16, 1982, in Elkhorn, Wis. She graduated from Harlem High School in 2000, and attended Rock Valley College. Katrina was employed by Camryn Industries in Belvidere as a human resources coordinator. As a member of Heartland Community Church, she loved working with children through Launch Ministries, volunteering, and helping others. Katrina was a warmhearted person who loved people, especially children. Her beautiful smile could light up any room and brought joy to all around her. She had many hobbies and interests, including planning family gatherings, taking pictures of family and friends, and gardening (her favorite flowers were yellow carnations). Katrina also was an avid Chicago Bears fan, and enjoyed vacations at beaches and ocean fronts. Katrina leaves many loving family and friends: husband, Todd Smith; mother, Vikki Nalevac; father, Bruce Edlund; stepdaughters, Paige, Devan and Sydnie; sister, Miraynda Castro; brother, Chad (Heather) Kaltved; grandmother, Deloris Diventi; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Heartland Community Church, 1280 S. Alpine Road, Rockford, with Gordy Smith of Heartland officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park, 6202 Charles St., following the service. Visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at the church, and from 10 a.m. Saturday to time of service. It is amazing how one person can remind so many just how precious life and relationships are. Over the past few weeks I have heard story after story of lives touched by one person. Long lost friends reuniting unexpectedly at a vigil, families setting aside differences and linking arms in a field during a search, people moved to action for reasons they can't explain, prayers across a community unified by one life, one very special and precious life...your life has made an impact....your life has left a legacy...your life Katrina Smith will live on in the difference you have made in the lives of others!
