Alexander Young Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 25 to Jan. 31, 2024.
Alex died January 20, 2024, at Minnesota Home Care in Citrus Heights. He was born February 22, 1942, in Port Chester, New York, the son of Alexander A. and Audrie F. (Owen) Young.

Alex graduated from Harrison High School, Class of 1960. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Navy. In 1975 he married Darlene Vasquez, creating a blended family of 6. They moved to San Jose, California where they lived for 30 years raising their family. It takes a very special person to choose to step into the role of a father. We are forever grateful for his choosing to be our dad. He also loved his wife deeply, even in the end showing more concern for her well-being than his own.

Alex was a football enthusiast. He got his passion for coaching from his dad, sharing his knowledge of the game as a Defensive Coach for West Valley Pop Warner Football. He shared his wife's love of Dobermans, becoming an active member with the DPCA and AKC, and partnering in the creation of Darwin Dobermans. An avid cook, he nurtured and served his family and community by spending countless hours in the kitchen preparing meals, an expression of his love for them. He gave the joy of laughter to his kids, introducing them to the comedy geniuses of the likes of Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, The Three Stooges, and Peter Sellers.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Karen and his son, Christopher. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; his son, Michael Vasquez and his wife Kathy; daughters, Michelle Vasquez, Kimberly Bartel and her husband Ken; and 9 grandchildren.

The family is honoring his request of no services.

I didn´t get a chance to know Alex well until they moved closer to us. We enjoyed going to the local Chinese restaurant nearby, especially with the family at Christmas. I also remember him asking me to dance at our wedding. He was very kind to me.
