Madeline Holcomb Mixer

Madeline Holcomb Mixer died May 24, 2018, in Berkeley, at the age of ninety. She was born in San Diego to Samuel Frost Holcomb III and Vera Martin Holcomb. She graduated from the University of California at Berkeley (BA) and the University of Michigan (MA) and spent her life working for women's equality in the workplace.
For thirty-three years, she was the Western Regional Director of the Women's Bureau, U.S. Department of Labor. She was particularly focused on helping women obtain apprenticeships in nontraditional occupations.
Madeline's husband of fifty-one years, Joseph Redding Mixer, died on January 8, 2018. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Codding, two step-sons, Andrew Mixer and Scott Mixer, and three grandchildren. The family would appreciate donations to Tradeswomen, Inc., Oakland.
