Caroline Spurlock Obituary

CAROLINE POSTELL SPURLOCK

Caroline Postell Spurlock was born December 9, 1924, in Plaquemine, Louisiana, to Charles Edward Postell and Mercedes Supple Postell. She died peacefully on May 21, 2015, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Carol was the devoted wife of lifelong Shreveport resident, Dr. Daniel Webster Spurlock, and the mother of five children. Carol loved to play tennis and was very good at what she did, even though people watching her play were astounded by her form. She competed in tennis tournaments not only in Louisiana, but throughout the southern United States. Other than the friends she made through Dan and his Shreveport connections, Carol met most of her friends through tennis, first at Princess Park, then at East Ridge Country Club and Pierremont Oaks, and they remained her friends until the day she died. She and Dan loved to travel the world together and took their family on many memorable trips to Central and South America and Europe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward and Mercedes Postell, her husband, Dan and her son, Dr. Charles Edward Postell Spurlock. She is survived by her son, Daniel Webster Spurlock of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and three daughters, Caroline S. Ancelet and her husband, Barry Ancelet of Scott, Louisiana; Ann Logan S. Swearingen, and her husband, Anthony Swearingen of Asheville, North Carolina; and Frances S. Huggins and her husband , Steve Huggins, of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Anne S. Perrone, Randi S. Roberts, James Postell Spurlock, Jean Ancelet, Francois Ancelet, Louis Ancelet, Emile Ancelet, Clelie Ancelet, Margaret L. Swearingen, E. Rainer Swearingen, Lise Huggins, Daniel Huggins, and William Huggins, and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family would especially like to thank our mother's care givers, the kindest, nicest and most understanding people in the world, Janice Henderson Smith, Yolonda Pugh and Serena Lewis, and her wonderful and supportive friends, Jean Hundley, Carolyn Turner and Jerry Wray who continued to brighten her days till the very end.

A Mass will be held at a later date in Shreveport, with another Mass and burial to follow in Plaquemine, Louisiana. Friends of the family will be notified of the date and time the Mass will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the NW Louisiana Humane Society, the NW Louisiana Food Bank, or any charity of the donor's choice.

I just want to say that my prayers are with the Spurlock family. I enjoyed caring for your mother. I am going to miss the times she and I sat in her room and talked and laughed. Mrs. Spurlock was hilarious and I am really going to miss her. May God bless and keep you!

The Spurlocks have been part of my life since forever. So sad to say goodbye to Carol. Her fun humor and quick wit will be missed as well as her joy in living. As Caroline would say "joie de vivre"! My love to all the Spurlock family and my dear friend, Caroline...

Caroline was one of my Family's favorite friends. My Mother, Dorothy Wilson, was always talking about what Caroline was doing (which was always a lot). Our prayers are with the entire Spurlock family and we wish you peace at this difficult time.

I'm so sorry to all the Spurlock's. I have so many happy memories with Dan and Carol from my childhood. My mother, Marty Noland, adored Carol and speaks of her often and fondly. Thinking of yall during this difficult time. Much love, Laura Noland Harter.
