Chris E. Sempos

MARION — Chris E. Sempos, 83, of Marion, formerly of Wareham, died October 11, 2008 in the Sippican Heathcare Center. He was the husband of Ellen J. (Butler) Sempos and the son of the late Evangelos and Dena (Droukas) Sempos.

He was born in Haverhill and lived in Wareham for many years. He graduated from Wareham High School, Tabor Academy and the National Institute of Dry Cleaning.

Mr. Sempos served in the Army Air Corps during WWII.

Mr. Sempos owned and operated Town & Country Cleaners and Gateway Laundromat both in Wareham for many years before retiring.

He was featured in the Saturday Evening Post for inventing a Float Boat designed to harvest cranberries. He served on the Board of Water Commissioners and the Prudential Committee for the Wareham Fire District for many years.

Survivors include his widow; 4 daughters, Connie Carbone and her husband Raymond of East Wareham, Christine Haden of Bourne, Kathleen Sempos and her husband Bruce Kelenosy of Wareham and Martha Sempos and her husband Byron Eldridge of Osterville; a son, Robert Sempos and his wife Joyce of Falmouth; a sister, Esther Rogers of East Wareham; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.

His funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008 in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., (Rte. 28), Wareham. Burial will follow in Agawam Cemetery. Visiting hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
